The trailer made it look terrible but it was pretty funny.

It's not great.
They've tried to pack storyline of at least 4 of the UK episodes into the Pilot alone.
Bit of a cluster.

A good 3rd episode.

Almost word for word of the Pub and night club episodes of the UK version.

The main difference being the a bowling alley replacing the pub.

The office comparison is a good one, because after the first series they moved away from copying the British one and started more original American ideas. If they can do that with The Inbetweeners, whilst maintaining the quality, they may have a good show on their hands. Of course that all depends on ratings, which I haven't seen so can't comment upon...

Wasn't overly impressed with the first couple of episodes. Thought they were fairly bland rehashes of the first couple of episodes of the original series.

Thought Will was ok, and Simon, but Neil and Jay are just irritating. Think I'll watch the rest of the first season, and see how it goes when they go into uncharted waters of new scripts, but for now, it's a 5/10 show.

it's actually only the first episode of the US office that isn't very good. and that is a word for word remake of the UK pilot.

after that they continued to use broad plot outlines but the stories were their own.

the inbetweeners US seems a bit of a halfway house. in that they are raping the UK scripts for bits they can use and adding nothing.

I can't see the Inbetweener fans on E4 giving it much time. Also MTV don't make many good shows IMHO.

Good point about the office, I wan't keen on the 1st season but I enjoy the later seasons especially when they developed the characters.

That's cos there all either reality or copies of British shows....
Except Awkward. which starts tonight on VIVA, which is critically acclaimed, I've never seen it, looked to me like it had a similar style of humor to the Inbetweeners, except much less sexual

The UK version of episode 3 of the US version is on E4 at the moment, repeated on +1 in half an hour.

The last couple of episodes have shaken the shackles a bit and have been original ideas. The cookery club storyline doesn't really have an equivalent in the UK series, although it wasn't all that funny, but this week's 'Slave' story was a great example of a funny plot written with an American audience in mind. With slavery not being as big an issue over here as in the US (an oversimplification I know), that storyline wouldn't have "held" as well in the UK version but actually worked really well and made for some uncomfortable - but funny - scenes in the US version.

The swearing being bleeped out is a mare - seriously, you can have a guy with his d*ck stuck in a jacuzzi jet but you can't say the word "d*ck"!? - and I could do without MTV's ever-so-"helpful" pop-ups every bloody time a song plays telling me what it is. But, you know, I watched the first episode out of almost morbid curiosity, and here I am still watching it five episodes in - I don't think they've done all that bad a job.

I agree. It's got better as it's moved away from the UK plots. I'm going to stick with it for a bit.

Well this is turning out to be a good little series. It seems to be moving away from the UK episodes, can't remember an episode similar to this one, although there was the party with the young kids.

A bit close to the bone with the period stuff.

It seems to me that a lot of people want this to be awful and to fail, just to prove how great and uncopyable the original UK series is, but I think that is unfair and short sighted.

I really enjoy this show. I want sure it would work, so many other s have failed before it, but I think they get it right. In fact I actually think it works best when it follows its own furrow rather than recycling the UK jokes, which dont necessarily translate, not least since two of the characters are completely different to their UK namesakes and, as far as I am concerned, work very well in their own right.

In the first season we are seeing as many epsidoes as in the first two UK series, and if it is picked up for another season, which I really hope it is, it will have to come up with new material out of necessity.

Inbetweeners (Original) fanboys need to chill out a bit over this. If you really dont like it, fine, but that doesnt make it a failure, it stands on its own merits as a separate show. Storylines are recycled and some jokes, but the characters are not identical (even Will, who is most similar to his UK inspiration) and the comedy is suited to the US high school environment and broader culture and taken as such, rather than as some sort of intentional insult to the original, as some seem to take it, I think it is an enjoyable bit of fun.

The UK original is a classic, no doubt, and the US version isnt. But it is a good laugh (and what more do you want?). But it could be, just as the US Office transcended its origins, so could this is given a chance. And lets face it, there will be no more UK Inbetweeners series, so why not just chill out and enjoy this new take on it?

Ahh shame, there won't be a 2nd series, cancelled by MTV.

http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/inbe...cancelled-mtv/

I thought it was good in its own right.
