I just completed the story(just got to do a couple of favours, get full triad xp and win some more races to finish the game).
It's a great game that deserves a sequel. I enjoyed driving around the city at my own leisure beating up random bad guys. The story while being not exactly original was really well told imo.I never like the GTA games but oddly Sleeping Dogs got me hooked. |

Overall I really enjoyed this game, it's my second platinum trophy too. At first I seriously hated the driving physics, but they suit the game so well, and the ability to ram is awesome. I'll miss a lot of game mechanics when GTA V comes around, especially the fighting.

One thing I like about sleeping dogs is having the collectibles show up on the mini map once certain 'dates' are completed!
Seeing them appear on the map while driving around makes me want to collect them, whereas if they didn't appear and I had to search for them I probably wouldn't bother. |

Picked up Sleeping Dogs for the xBox yesterday and have only played it for an hour or so but I love it already.
![]() The game vividly evokes Hong Kong, from the rainy streets and garish neon signs to the shops and restaurants. It's a really nice change from the US setting of the GTA games. The characters do look a bit odd - rather rubbery in terms of skin tone but that actually works quite well with the overall visual feel of the game. The mixture of English and Cantonese speech works really well and adds to the atmosphere. So far I've only ridden a motorbike and driven a van but the bizarre driving physics are going to take some getting used to after the smooth, realistic characteristics of GTAIV. The hand-to-hand combat is great. Although I'm only in the early stages, the moves are varied and you do have to use some skill and strategy instead of just mashing buttons. Being able to shove someone's head through a speaker or crush them with a shutter is a really nice touch. The timing is a bit odd - there is a definite lag between hitting the button and getting the move but I'm getting used to it. The voice acting is excellent and this does look like a much more grown up story than the rather weak plots of the GTA games. Some of the early characters are a bit cliched - that whole uber-chav look of muscles, tattoos and jewellery is daft - Chinese blokes just don't look like that. However, I expect you get to hang out with more sophisticated villains as you move up the criminal food chain. ![]() All in all, I'm loving it and I'm going to make a point of mastering the moves and not rushing through it. |

Got the full 1000g on this yesterday morning, now I don't know what to do with it. Do I trade it in while I'll still get quite a bit back or keep it in the hope that there will be DLC?
Loved the game by the way, great story, gameplay and fun, game of the year for me. |

Its a great game, better than the latest GTA in nearly every way. The martial arts combat was a particular highlight.
The only bit i didn't much care for was the gun fights,. Thankfully they were few and far between. |

Had ago on this tonight at a mates, is the fighting in this game broken? My mate explained the fighting and I thought yeah ok sounds like Batman, cool! Not cool, I had 4 guys to beat down and it took forever, really hard work!
Anyway, looking at some of the posts above maybe its a practice thing and the game is actually really good, how long does it take to grasp the fighting? |

One other thing, can the entire game be played with just melee combat and totally avoid using guns? I would prefer a purely melee play through, use guns on a second play through to pick any related trophies. |

The first few fights where you have to face off against multiple guys i found very difficult, but keep at it and it clicks and becomes pretty easy. By the end of it could fight 20+ guys of various types no problem. The trick is to take your time, always counter when a guy flashes red and learn how to fight each of the various enemy types (counter weapons, attack grapplers, etc). Also when your learning its good to use the environmental features to take out a load of guys early. Also learn the leg break move as soon as you can. You can take out most enemies in a grab, leg break and then a kick, with the added benefit that everyone else winces when you break the leg so don't attack. |
