If she had been in hospital for four days the hospital would have been duty bound to inform the police anyway. This is just one reason I don't believe UJ's story.

Not all hospitals are required to report a rape..they are NOT duty bound

Whether or not it's the hospital's job to report it to the police, it should be every woman's duty to report it in case it happens to another woman. If it happened to you Betty, wouldn't you want to see the person responsible brought to justice?

Whilst I partly agree..the treatment women get whilst in court puts many many women off going to the police..the procedure needs to be changed

In all honesty I don't know what I would do... And I don't want to find out

Because he could have sued her. You can't just accuse people in the press, you have to go through the legal procedure.

She let people know she was raped, she didn't want to go to the police. Her decision. The chances of a conviction after so long would have been virtually non-existent.

I think you've misunderstood.

What I meant when I asked why didn't she, was if she'd said it wasn't him, she'd have been saving an innocent man a lot of heartache. I don't believe he did it, because if he had, why didn't she go to the police in the first place? Naturally if it wasn't him she'd have been sued if she'd named him - that goes without saying.

For a sexual assault of this alleged seriousness, the hospital would have called the police in the interest of public safety. After the police had investigated, the CPS would have been informed and they would make the decision to attempt prosecution based on likelihood of conviction and again public safety issues. UJ would have had to work extremely hard to dissuade the police and CPS from pressing ahead with this.
