Anne Hathaway singing I dreamed a dream ,while not the best sung, is the most emotive version I have heard. I think barring a major upset the Oscar is hers. Would love Amy Adams to win but she will one day.. It's Annes year.

Russel Crowe was good, a good Javert but he's singing is very distinctive. He can sing but I do understand what some mean.

I hope Anne wins. Wow what a performance. Brilliant movie. I can't praise it enough.

PLUS the screening I was in was PACKED and that was the 10.40am showing!

Off to see it at 7pm! Too excited. Is it true that they cut Dog Eats Dog?

Does the new song hold up to the others. Bet it doesn't . Remember when Rice/Webber wrote that terrible song for the film of Evita, You must love me. Awful that way

You can listen to the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvi-ylOHRP8

Personally, I liked it. The composes said when they wrote it they felt is slot in perfectly, I just don't feel it sounds Les Mis-sy, if that makes sense.

i still like it, better than the cut attempt, No One Would Listen, from Phantom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPRr5dTHas4

Yes, that's true.

Just noticed the showing I'm going to tonight has sold out, so has the one after it, and the cinema has added 2 later ones that weren't on sale a couple of days ago - looks like it's popular!

bah ! did they cut anything else? I noticed on the soundtrack most of "look down" has been cut, other than about 15 seconds and then straight into Javert's part.

I believe quite a few of the songs are cut in some way - the opening of On My Own is missing, for example, it starts straight in at the verse 'On My Own, pretending he's beside me..' And Eponine is cut from Valjean's death scene.

That's all I've heard in terms of specifics, I'll see what else I notice when I see it tonight

Screenings are plagued with morons singing along. Nobody wants to listen to your singing, STFU.

A few were shortened (Turning was one of them, but never my favourite anyway). Dog eat dog cut, as was Beggars at the Feast, which was a shame as the Thenardiers are great. I haven't read through the forum, but agree with one other about Russell Crowe. I wish his Javert had thrown himself off the bridge long before he did. He was the only one who didn't do it for me. I love Javerts songs, but he was very nasal and was lacking in the feeling that everyone else managed to convey. I just didn't find him believable at all. I can't praise Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway highly enough. The new song is nice, but it didn't have any music from the show in it. If you know the musical well, most tunes have more than one incarnation in different ways, but the new one bore no relation to any of the others.

I am glad I went to a 12.00 p.m. showing. There was just me and two others in the cinema (none of us knew each other). Brilliant. No chatting, rustling of sweets or coughing. I was just able to sit back and enjoy the film.

EDIT
For those who aren't sure about the singing from the clips shown, don't worry. I saw the musical in it's first 6 months and about a dozen times since. You need to see the film to understand why they are sung like they are. I thought Eddie Redmayne's voice was weird (I too loved Michael Ball as Marius), but in the context of the whole film, he is great. Singing for film and singing on stage are two different things.

I also had concerns previously about the flow of the film seeing as there is quite a lot of characters but actually on screen it all gels together really well. To be honest, I cannot fault the movie. Best movie I have seen in a very long time.

Just back WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally I get to fit the songs into the storyline and they make sense!

And what a storyline! Layers upon layers - Not a dry eye in the house (including me!)

Now for the trivial: Who the hell is that actor who plays Marius? I couldn't take my eyes off him! Freckles as well! Hubber Hubber!!!!! ooooooooooooooooo!!! How did I miss him before? (Scuttles off to look up his back catalogue (Ooo Mrs!))

I must now go and see the stage show as it will be interesting to see how they do that on a stage.

Eddie Redmayne plays Marius. Enjolras (Aaron Tveit is hotter though :P)

Javert: So just what is this bloke's problem that a big hug or maybe a mains powered vibrator wouldn't sort out?

Talk about Captain Grumpy!

EDIT: And I think the Thénardiers should have come to a sticky and fitting end - They were funny, but nasty.

Yes! But only as it brought everything else together, including all the other tear-jerking moments.

I'm making it a point to go and see the stage show this year as it will be interesting how they did some on those scenes on stage with limited space and special effects.

When does the film make it to Blu Ray?

I am thinking the same too. I want to see the show more than ever now.

I am really hoping the DVD release is PACKED with extras such as deleted scenes (apparently there were many), outtakes, alternates etc. There's so much more I could sit and watch.

I also loved (regarding the ending)

I always wanted to know how Eponine and her song 'On My Own' fitted into the story - Now I know! - Unrequited love at it's best. This is a very multi-layered story with lots of characters.

Also: Could people please post if you had an interval in your screening and where did they put it?

In my screening it was only about 45mins into it just after the Thénardiers first appeared and just CUT! (almost mid sentence!) Badly done and made zero structural or timing sense at all! It would be far better placed at one of the big time transitions in the movie itself - would make better sense and fit naturally.

I've just seen it for the second time (not twice today! saw it in Canada over Christmas) -- and neither had an interval. Sounds like a mistake to me. The theatre interval is after One Day More.

Loved it just as much (possibly more) the second time.

I have just noticed (imagine I was just sitting there and it popped up) that a highly illegal screener of it is out.

Please make sure that like me, no one downloads it as that would of course be so very very wrong.

As I said, the one they put in my screening was very amateurishly done and just looked like the projectionist had got bored after only 45 mins and done out for a cigarette!

It was mid sentence that it sort of just got turned off and an "Intermission" slide projected on the screen. A very bad place and not anywhere near halfway through the film.

Yes I have heard the theatre recording of "One Day More" and that is an obvious interval show stopper moment if ever there was one. But that song comes quite last in the film - So I wonder if they have jigged things around in the film a bit?
