Apart from a few plot holes and the fact that it is yet another prequel to the first twenty films, it was great. There was Q, M, Moneypenny, some funny one liners, a brilliant villain, fantastic theme song and very little of that horrible fast cut editing during the action sequences that ruined Quantum Of Solace. Unlike his previous two Bond films, I actually enjoyed Daniel Craig's performance as Bond. My favourite Bonds will always be Roger Moore and Sean Connery though.

Not just hype....The money it's made, I'm sure, is from people seeing it more then once.
Correct. I saw it twice.

Very very very few films get that honour from me

Especially since I'd fallen out of love with 007 since Craig took over.

Its probably overtaken Phantom Menace now (which includes the 3D re release I'm guessing), shocking how many mediocre films have made over $1Bn (Alice in Wonderland, Transformers 3) as well as excellent ones (Avengers, Toy Story 3).

Reminds me of the moment in TWINE, the pre title sequence in Spain, blows up the specs, kills a few baddies and then, that little look on his face. "Bond is back and he is mad".

Skyfall up for Original Song at the oscars. Well done Adele. Especially if the report is accurate she recorded the track in 10 minutes.

I really enjoyed it....But....I hated the bad guy. Why do they always have to be so camp?

3 questions (as I was nodding off watching it).

How did Raoul escape when he was in the cell ?

Why did Bond & M retreat to a deserted house of all the places in the world ?

Why didnt Raoul just kill M at the start ?

1) He had it planned from the start
2) To set a trap
3) Bond villans are stupid.

I just hope they keep the momentum going. Sign up Sam Mendes to be director again and up the budget.

Maybe with new writers on board the stories will be better.

We don't know; it happened off-screen, and frankly doesn't make a lot of sense. It does seem that Q was mind-blowingly stupid in that he connected a known-evil laptop to the corporate network.

Why did Bond & M retreat to a deserted house of all the places in the world ?
Because they were stupid. They chose to take on the bad guy alone, rather than have the help of MI6. Bond was lucky the house hadn't been sold off in the year he was assumed dead. As it was, just the house weapons were sold, and he was left facing an attack helicopter with a game shot-gun and some improvised bombs. It's hardly surprising it ended badly.

Why didnt Raoul just kill M at the start ?
Partly because he was stupid, and partly because he wanted a more elaborate revenge. He wanted to see her face to face, and gloat.

Just watched it and to be honest thought it was awful. It was like watching 2 different films. The first half was quite honestly pointless. What was all the fake dying and running around after that guy with the list all about? It was pure filler. Javier Bardem doesn't turn up until more than half way into the film and then it feels like all his scenes are rushed, as we've spent the first half of the film pissing about with things that don't really have anything to do with the plot.
And the finale, what a joke that was. Why didn't he just put M into protective custody and lure him up there on his own, whilst in the meantime getting Q to send in the special forces to meet them there?
An absolute mess of a film. Daniel Craig really has ruined this franchise.

A classic case of someone who was obviously distracted when watching the movie, as you clearly seemed unable to understand some of the basic plot points.

Even people who didn't particularly like it would not call it awful...that's just way over the top.

Out of interest, what format did you watch it on, cinema or some other format?

Yes, being an all-in-one writer/director/producer/franchise-owner/lead actor he really has ruined it single-handedly, hasn't he

Skyfall will definitely make $290m in the US and could pass $300m maybe?
Just squeezed past this weekend, apparently.

Tell me about it........

Global box office takings - $1,033,647,000 (only the 14th film in history to break the one billion mark, ignoring adjusted for inflation)

North American box office takings - $300,147,000 (42nd highest grossing in US history)

UK box office - Over 100 million (first film to break 100 million in UK)

Yeah, Daniel has a lot to answer for for slitting the throat of the Bond cash cow.

I think the thing is it wasn't a traditional classic Bond film. Normally with Bond films there is a dramatic intro scene that shows Bond escaping some dire situation and then you're introduced to a bad guy and the rest of the film is Bond going up against said bad guy and bedding a few women along the way including one he works with.. and the bad guy meeting a sticky end.

With Skyfall what they appeared to have done is in some respects create a tribute movie to the character Bond and the franchise, rather than a classic bond film. So for example.. the start of the film allowed them to introduce an element of weakness in Bond the character.. an indication that perhaps he is getting on a bit and they played into that a lot as the film went on. This is where Craig excelled imho. He does mature and broody very well.

And in paying tribute to the character and franchise, they wanted to show the relationship between Bond and M was stronger than we perhaps realised and they also wanted to tip their hats to various things from the franchise too, such as the Aston Martin car. And apparently they even considered asking Sean to be the gamekeeper.

Remember, Skyfall was marking 50 years of Bond. Once you treat it as a celebration of the 50 years you enjoy the movie for what it is.

But they did still have a plot to cover, and so they introduced Javier's character. Which I have to say was painfully underused. He should have escaped at the end of Skyfall and carried forward into the next film imho. He was a brilliant bad guy and we lost out there. Perhaps as Bond was about to chase after him and finally kill him, the M thing could have happened and Bond was forced to decide, stay with M, or go after Silva. He picks M, much to her anger. And Silva gets away while the M thing plays out. That would have been a good way to carry Javier into the following film. Bond would go after him on a vengeance mission and they could have had MI6 trying to rein him in with Ralph Fiennes etc etc and back to your normal Bond film plots.

But alas, they went with what they went with. Personally I think Bond is in a good place. The film is by far the more successful of the franchise, which after 50 years and 23 films is impressive. And I think with Daniel Craig they have a good version of the character to work with. We're seeing a different side to him that Daniel offers the role and it's working well. I suspect they're currently offering him a big deal to stay on past the couple of films he's agreed to do next. It may also allow the franchise to secure some bigger directors who might normally have turned their noses up at Bond.

It really isn't difficult.

Even from memory, the shrapnel in Bond's chest identifies the hard drive theif, who's due to carry out a job in Shanghai.

Bond is to find out who his employer is, get the hard drive back and then dispatch with the assassin.

All explained in a few lines of dialogue before Bond leaves the underground MI6.

So you watched it on some form of pirated dvd or dodgy download...no wonder you could not understand the plot.

Unless you watch a movie on a cinema screen or on an offical blu ray or dvd on a decent HD tv...you really are not watching it properly and really cannot appreciate it.

Inspiration makes some excellent points, perhaps it was fitting that Silva was shot in the back but I woiuld have liked to see him carry on in the next film too, he was an excellent bad guy.
I really liked some of the "tribute" touches (the Aston Martin car etc) and how Bond was shown to be more vulnerable, broody, getting on a bit which we havent really seen before (Brosnan did do it a bit in DAD),

So the assassin is working for Silva, who wants someone killed in the opposite building already in a room full of his own henchmen??
Why such an elaborate way of doing it, why not just get the henchmen in the room to do it.

Oh, and how did Bond know that the casino chip was a specific type of chip which could be cashed in for a reward?

As I said, utter nonsense.

Bardem should have been brought into this film at least an hour earlier.

Ah yes, because Daniel Craig wrote it, directed it, produced it........ Basically you just don't like Daniel Craig otherwise you wouldn't have pinned it all on him.

Bloody loved it - there is a worrying lack of gadgetry in the new Bond films though - I would like to see them marry the new grittier style of Bond with Aston Martins firing rockets.
