But then as he is now 61 and with a very successful TV 30 year career, which I would have thought provides a very comfortable income, would he actually be that bothered?
I can't believe that. I used to watch Auf Wiedersehen Pet when I was 10 and he was in it and really young (mind you I was 40 last week ) When I see repeats he looks about 15!

I am really pleased that Robbie and Laura are now together but I felt we missed a scene I know it's Lewis and not a soap but Laura was on date with someone else at the start of part 1 and after years of dancing around each other would the hand holding never mind the kiss suddenly just happen without any sort of conversation? After 7 years it sounds odd to say but it seemed rushed as though tbtp wanted them together before the last episode in case it really is the last one (I have my fingers crossed its not)
They've almost got together before. I think it was explained in what he said about the memory of his wife fading - or words to that effect. He couldn't get together with anyone before as imo he would've felt he was betraying his wife.

So the university professor had absolutely nothing to do with the plot/??

And what about the police officer who was found in Croatia? I know he was having an affair with Peter Davison's wife but she didn't go with him. Was she supposed to meet him there? If not why did he go? Was his only crime having the affair? I think I must've missed something

He's hardly on the scrap heap at 61, and i doubt whether actors , or anyone else who really enjoys their job , would be content to down size and just take a few cameo roles. The fact that he doesn't need to work is irrelevant. Even if he doesn't do Lewis again I can see him in major roles for a few years to come

I never said he was on the scrap heap.

i was replying to a comment suggesting that he might find it difficult to get a lead role in another series after being seen as Lewis for so long.

I am sure he will appear in plenty of other programmes, as he has on a regular basis for the last 30 years, but that is different from a lead role in a new series.

I'm still a bit disgruntled that there wasn't enough Hathaway in this episode, but I thought it was a really well crafted tribute to Lewis as a man; as another poster has said, Robbie was shown as the intrinsically good guy that he's always been.
I love that he and Laura look like they're going to get their happy ending, and I shed a tear at the scene where we learned about the Geordie copper offering a helping hand

There were some loose ends in the plot, it's true, but I don't think it really mattered on this occasion.

I really hope the next, probably final, episode leaves as nice a taste as this one did!

..The only thing that didn't work in last night's episode was the narrowboat fire. When Robbie & Laura walked along the towpath and saw the boat on fire there was a guy walking behind them in the opposite direction. Would he really have walked past a burning narrowboat? The same after Robbie pulled the girl out and then the guy two boats along jumped off the boat and ran towards Robbie, in the "real" world they would have reacted a lot quicker than that. The narrowboat community is very tight knit and would have been quick to help out.
I expect the guy walking away was supposed to be the guy who actually set the fire. The fire had only just taken hold so no-one else had yet seen it - it would have been Robbie & Laura's shouts that alerted them.

I was a bit puzzled by the bent cop - he seemed to get away scot-free even though he was clearly in the farm that was cooking the meth, how did he do that?

So was I...

Frankly, the least that would happen is that the Serbian cops would want to question him, and if any forensic evidence was found linking him to the factory was found, the Serbians would ask for an arrest warrant to be issued.

Some of the Fox family seem to have appeared at one time or another in the Lewis series. Freddie Fox (Laurence's cousin and Edward's son) was in this last episode, and James Fox ( Laurence's father) played a peculiar professor in another episode in another series, but I can't remember which one. All we need now is for Joanna David and Emilie Fox to turn up.
Joanna David appeared in Morse as an ex-fiancée of his, so she's possibly too recognisable to appear in Lewis as a different character.

I totally agree, I though I had missed a chunk, how did it all come about so quickly?

That hasn't stopped them! We have had Simon Callow, who was murdered in the Wolvercote Tongue episode, Anna Massey and I can't think of the other person who was in a Morse and ended up as a totally different character in Lewis!

Towards the middle/end of this episode there was a scene on a bridge between Lewis & Laura. I can't remember the dialogue but as the camera faded away it seemed as if they were about to lean in for a kiss. The next time we saw them both, they were kissing in the pub. I think we were meant to think the kiss had happened on the bridge - very subtle.

There were quite a few recurring actors in the first 2 series of Lewis. Can't remember the characters though.

There have been too many to actually state but the most memorial ones are the two already mentioned - Anna Massey & Simon Callow.

David Ryall was the murderer in "Driven to Distraction" in Morse and was the Allotment guy in the ep
Life born of fire.

Gina Mckee, Nate Parker, Mary Jo Randle, Ronald Pickup to name a few!!

Loved that ending in the pub,the snog in front of Innocent and James. Their faces were a picture!

I didn't watch last weeks til yesterday so when I watch tonights tomorrow, it won't feel like a huge gap between the two!
If you are not watching "tonight's! until tomorrow. (Yesterday now, by the time I have written this) how come you know about the scene in the pub?

Not long after Morse finished Kevin Whately played a monstrous manipulative wife beater in a powerful tv drama (the name of which I have unfortunately forgotten, but I have never since been able to look at a paddle hairbrush without shuddering) and was utterly, compellingly believable in the role. He is obviously a very talented actor and seems to be getting better as he moves towards old age. Looking forward to what he does with future roles. Although I will of course miss Lewis, as will everyone else here.

Thanks for that amysmum So it was while Morse was still being made, which was very brave of him considering what a nasty character he was playing.

I remember he did an episode of New Tricks. He played a murderer from the past (obviously, being New Tricks!) in that.
What amused me when I saw him was that he wore glasses and had a little goatee beard, as if to not look like Lewis! lol
But he was very good in it.

Kevin's done a few things!

I'd almost forgotten he did Peak Practice, even though I never missed an episode!

And I remember seeing him in Miss Marple!

I loved Peak Practice while I still enjoyed it I always felt something was missing when Kevin & Amanda left

amysmum Good point about the bridge makes more sense that Laura would walk up to Robbie in pub & kiss him like that and say she'd been wanting to do it all day if they'd kissed already cause it wasn't really a first kiss.

When Hathaway said "I leave him alone for 5 minutes....."
Just brilliant - what a fabulous ending.
What is great that we have a whole other episode to go too. Hope it is a good one.

Very good latest episode of Lewis. Plenty of suspects to chose from. The old gripe of not showing the full two hours at once remains though , and especially as we will have to wait a week.

Lewis is still hedging his bets about retirement, so I'm not sure whether a decision has been made to make another series .

I think there is deffo not going to be another series but Kevin has already stated he wants a year off (so no filiming this year) and is up for the idea of a one off next year...maybe a Xmas special but I think only if Lawrence Fox will want to do it aswel.

Remember Morse had a few one off specials before the final ep.

Least we all have Endeavour to look forward to later in the year which I assume will have the full 2 hours ep.
