I tell you the truth, they have their reward. 6:3 But when you do your giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 6:4 So that your gift may be in secret and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." That's his Sainthood scuppered then

It's a bit sad, that charitable effort like this gets people complaining. And whatever anyone thinks about football and the players' salaries, they do have to work hard, there is really no denying that. |

Sigh, so now a man can't give without receiving stick.
So what if he told the world about it I am sure it would have gotten out anyway... Some singers actors etc don't even do this. Any charity is good charity homegrown or not, he hasn't spent that much time in the UK recently. It would be like telling BONO to stop helping those African kids and start cleaning up dublin... its silly charity is charity. I for one salute him for what he's doing he could be selfish and line his pockets and his kids kids pockets for years to come but instead he is giving it away. |

It seems strange that people are being so cynical but then again, this is DS so I'm not totally suprised. To be honest, it doesn't matter his motivations or thinking behind it. At the end of the day, it's a decent thing to do and a charity benefits from it.

The giving to charity is a good thing of course, but I think people have a problem with the big hoo-ha with which it was announced. No need for it, he could have done it without the fanfare, but as I posted ^, it was supposedly Victoria's idea, and we know she loves publicity.

I just can't think badly of someone of Beckham's status doing something like this. It's a brilliant thing to do and I think some are far too cynical. Like I said, I know there are celebs/zelebs who use charity for their own ends and I hate that too but I get no vibes whatsoever that this is what is happening here. |

![]() There is no difference really and if anything Beckham looks worse for doing such an act as he has many more ways of generating publicity. There was no need to go public unless he really wanted desperate publicity or was told to do it. If that view makes me cynical, then so be it |

Far better for the charity to be receiving this considerable sum of money than not receiving it, and for that reason it can only be a good thing, but everything Beckham does seems to be carried out under the spotlight of press conferences and carefully orchestrated media gatherings.
I'm very bored with the Beckham Circus. The press cannot help but continue to fawn over him. He is still managing to juggle the 'Mr Nice Guy' act with his insatiable and really rather astute appetite for the golden glow of the spotlight. |

The French taxation system means that if he is paid a salary in France, then he becomes liable for tax at 75% on his total worldwide earnings as well as social security charges of up to 20%. I Do not blame him for making his salary over to a charity but it is not quite as benevolent as it is made to appear!

Beckham is quite a hard, calculating individual behind the facade. I wonder what he likes more.... fame or money-making? |

He's not actually giving anything to charity , Paris St German are. If he wanted to make a charity gesture why didn't he donate the salary he would have been paid by Paris St German to charity out of his own money, and not got the football club to pay anything out .

I can't help being cynical!
He was a free agent, could have announced at any time he was joining PSG, but chose to announce it on deadline day...where it will be given the most publicity...and again....announce you are joining PSG..ok...but why the need to tell everyone you are donating 5 months' salary? Plenty of footballers out there give to charity all the time and you rarely hear about it, only fans of the respective clubs get to find out and only some times at that. Of course, glad children are getting the money, but wish there wasn't an ulterior motive, like there always is with Brand Beckham. |
