Just caught up on Sundays episode. Surely Mark will have formed a limited company, to buy / manage the hotels. This means that his personal assets can't be touched by the debts of the buiness - so how has he (personally) managed to go bankrupt?

Part two? I don't see the point as the series is coming to the end?

Does Alison really work at Spar now, or was that a joke on here?

Presumably he injected cash into the company that was his personal savings or he took out loans to get cash to inject in, that were secured on his personal property/assets. So when the company went down he will have lost what he put in.

Awww it's a shame that the thread has been broken up so close to the end of the series!

He may have formed a holding company etc to protect himself against creditors, but chances are any dealings with the bank would have been on the condition of a personal guarantee from Mark himself, as he is likely the only shareholder and effectively the holding company is just to protect himself. The banks aren't stupid enough to accept that, so he'll be liable to them.

Suppliers etc won't be paid by Mark though, if they are it'll be pennies.

I agree, it's only one more episode, but I had to earmark this one by commenting on it so as to keep up with it until after Sunday!

He wasn't the only investor in the company. He said as much in the last episode - someone had invested the year before, which pulled the hotel back from the brink then, when he was 15 says away from closing it completely.

Presumably the Gleaneagles Hotel Torquay and not the rather good namesake in Scotland...

I was thinking about the series and Alison and it struck me; maybe it got lost in the edit (or maybe a Reservations Manager's job isn't exciting enough for TV) but I never saw her do any actual work.

Not surprised her and Christian had trouble finding similar jobs, they hardly shined as model employees.

Like many seaside towns, Torquay hotel owners like using established brand names!!

There's a Grosvenor House as well as The Grosvenor.

And one sneaky owner named their hotel The Berburry (just switching the e and u).

I've popped into the Spar (I think there's only one) a couple of times but haven't spotted Alison.

And you based that observation on watching an extensively edited programme.

Do you have your autograph book on the ready?

If you do, I dread to think what her response would be!

This rumour of shop work may come from this interview (posted below) where she states that if she didnt work at the hotel she would want to do a part time shop job.

According to this the hotel was bought last autumn by the Richardson Hotel Group for 1m, has that been shown yet?

As for Mark....

....some guests at the Grosvenor have been disappointed to learn that Mr Jenkins is no longer involved in the running of the hotel. Such is his popularity that Keith and Fiona (new owners) have arranged to bring him back for some events at the hotel.

"If his customers want him we'll drag him in and pay him a fee," said Keith.

On my newspaper's TV review for tonight, it says:

8.00 The Hotel
Despite the hotel being up for sale, Mark wants reservations manager Alison to run the hotel when he leaves, and although far from convinced, she agrees to take over on a trial basis and quickly realises she must get the staff in line.

Wow, that should make interesting viewing on seeing how Motormouth Alison copes in dealing with the hotel staff in contrast with Mark's way...hmm.

I Tweeted her today asking her what she was working at now. She didn't reply. Ignorant moo.
