What would you try to get back on the boat?

I would get everyone to form a circle, linked one arm round the next person's shoulder, then get the smallest, lightest person in the middle. All tread water as hard as possible and put your other hand under the person's feet and lift. Would that have worked?

I think:

The two lightest sitting on the shoulders of the two heaviest. One of the lighter one's gets close to the boat side and the second lightest one helps to try and lift/push the first lightest up onto the boat.

Be difficult but its the only way I could see working.

How would that work? Surely you would need the resistance of solid ground beneath your feet to do that?

I would have lashed a couple of sea turtles together using my back hair and made a raft.

A circle of people all pushing down on the water at once. Kicking down. One light person in the middle. I reckon it would work.

Maybe. Not convinced but it would be worth giving a go in that situation.

if the person in the middle was light enough, I think it would work. I can't remember how many people were in the water. 6 or 7 maybe?

Yeah they do that in synchronised swimming, but synchronised swimming is not done in the sea with / tired / cold / unfit / panicking people.
