Presumably he injected cash into the company that was his personal savings or he took out loans to get cash to inject in, that were secured on his personal property/assets. So when the company went down he will have lost what he put in.

Awww it's a shame that the thread has been broken up so close to the end of the series!

He may have formed a holding company etc to protect himself against creditors, but chances are any dealings with the bank would have been on the condition of a personal guarantee from Mark himself, as he is likely the only shareholder and effectively the holding company is just to protect himself. The banks aren't stupid enough to accept that, so he'll be liable to them.

Suppliers etc won't be paid by Mark though, if they are it'll be pennies.

He wasn't the only investor in the company. He said as much in the last episode - someone had invested the year before, which pulled the hotel back from the brink then, when he was 15 says away from closing it completely.

I was thinking about the series and Alison and it struck me; maybe it got lost in the edit (or maybe a Reservations Manager's job isn't exciting enough for TV) but I never saw her do any actual work.

Like many seaside towns, Torquay hotel owners like using established brand names!!

There's a Grosvenor House as well as The Grosvenor.

And one sneaky owner named their hotel The Berburry (just switching the e and u).

I've popped into the Spar (I think there's only one) a couple of times but haven't spotted Alison.

As for Mark....

Wow, that should make interesting viewing on seeing how Motormouth Alison copes in dealing with the hotel staff in contrast with Mark's way...hmm.
