Something I wondered about Alicia.
Sometime last year, there was a scene in the pub where there were comments made about her cleavage! Subsquently the actress went on maternity leave, but looking back, maybe her pregnancy was making her cleavage more noticeable than normal, so something was written in! Must admit I hadnt noticed her cleavage till then anyway. |

Ladies of a certain age always wear hats...my Mum (now in her late nineties) wouldnt be seen dead outside the house without a hat.
Even as the paramedics were carrying her off to hospital with a bout of pneumonia, she insisted on a hat for the trip to the ambulance! |

Enda isn't the only soap actress to wear a hat all the time (well, almost).
Anyone remember the Scottish soap opera 'Take The High Road'? It had a character called Mrs Mack who, like Edna, wore hats on all the time (almost) except I remember she went hatless in a few episodes if my memory serves me right. Unlike Enda who seems to wear the same hat, Mrs Mack wore many different hats - all of them awful as you'll see one example at 7:30 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgJ1U1umYZQ |

Edna also had her hat off for Seth's wake in the Woolpack... apparantly he had insisted that no hats would be worn for it!

Hasn't Shirley got really long hair in real life, hence why she wears the hat? If she is to be filmed without it, she will most probably be wearing a wig

Maybe wearing a hat has an ageing effect. Both Edna and Mrs Mack (in the clip above) look more youthful without the hats. I've always thought that Edna as a character was older than Shirley Stelfox, and I know that Gwynneth Guthrie, who played Mrs Mack, is still alive, so maybe she was younger than the character, and they had to 'age her up.'

Edna needs to keep her hat on so that she can be identified when they eventually find her skeleton. She has been unconscious in her cottage for ages, and nobody in the village has noticed. She is my favourite character in EM.
