Advice requested re changing provider
Hi
Apologies, this is probably a dumb question but ... ... I have been with Demon for many years and am looking to move to BT Broadband. However, my wife has never moved awat from her Demon email address. So I was wondering whether it would be possible to take out a new contract with BT (6 months free) but keep Demon for a few months. My wife can take this time to notify friends and update accounts with her new (ISP-independent) email address. I cannot see why this wouldn't work but thought I'd check with you knowledgeable folk. Thanks keith |

If you have broadband over a phone line then it is impossible to have two providers live at the same time on one line. So the ADSL service from Demon would have to cease at the same time as BT take over the line.
Whether Demon would allow you to continue using e-mail after the ADSL service ceased is another matter. That might be one for them to answer. It might actually be better to move over to a generic e-mail provider that is not tied to any ISP. That way it doesn't matter who provides your broadband nor how many times you change supplier. |

Register a domain name and link that to your providers supplied email, then it doesn't matter how often you change your ISP the domain and email address stays the same.

Thanks chrisjr, not the answer I wanted :-) Guess she'll have to change her email address before we change ISP
