What a travesty and a cover up! I feel angry that he got away with it in the sense that we found out after his death. I always disliked him and never understood why...now I do - my intuition was on track!

There was a recent joke (on "8 out of 10 cats" - Sean Lock) saying that the kids who didn't win "Jim'll fix it" could consider themselves lucky! Indeed!!!

Hall needs a hero to battle BBC chaos and misery
Strikes, low morale and a poor awards night… let's hope Lord Hall can wave a magic wand and give the BBC its pride back

"CLAIMS by Mark Thompson, former director-general of the BBC, that he was unaware that Newsnight had investigated child sex-abuse allegations against Jimmy Savile have been contradicted by Helen Boaden, the BBC’s most powerful female executive.

The Sunday Times has learnt that lawyers acting for Boaden, the outgoing director of news, told the independent inquiry into the scandal that she had informed Thompson in a telephone call in December 2011 about the nature of the accusations against Savile."

"Senior Newsnight staff, including the anchorman Jeremy Paxman and others, repeatedly asked BBC management to sack the programme's editor Peter Rippon months into his editorship, saying he "was out of his depth"."

What a bizarre story...are Digital Spy saying they won't remove negative opinions or claims from appreciation threads?

To clarify, these 'inappropriate acts' were between adult males.

Shouldn't this Mail drivel be in Politics or Genreral Discussion as it has no connection with Savile.

Here's what the Mail reports as evidence...

I just don’t know how Nick can know and not do anything...
Nick Ross, Owen even Pollard? How are the Mail so sure which NIck is being referred to or is it speculation?

Is it speculation on the part of the Facebook author's part that 'Nick' knew anything, you'd think the Mail would have checked but there are no quotes...is there a by-election in the offing?

Madlands what an apt name for that twonks twitter account. From the outrageous assumptions and accusations you'd think that person had been a juror at the Vicky Pryce trial.

To modify Paxo's stuffing....

But what was the NHS doing promoting this absurd figure, this absurd and malign figure?

To Clarify: The Sunday Times is part of Rupert Murdoch's empire. Mark Thompson is CEO of The New York Times seen as a rival to Murdoch's New York Post.

Why would Helen Boaden's lawyers set out to drop their client in the shite?

By chance I happen to be reading her written statement and verbal interview given to Nick Pollard.

Mark Edmonds, associate editor of the Sunday Times magazine wrote to the BBC and in response to a 'particularly vexatious' claim the BBC drafted a responses to Edmonds questions...

2. At what point did Mark Thompson and Helen Boaden know about Newsnight's findings?"

As we have previously stated, Mark Thompson was not
involved at any stage...
Helen Boaden wrote to James Hardy.....

"Some of these allegations are highly litigious and we need to make clear that we would take these very seriously indeed and we would seek legal redress."
And a letter from Mills & Reeve was sent to the Sunady Times.

Helen Boaden interview pg 113 - 120

Merion Jones (Newsnight Savile producer) suspected of leaking and thought to be untrustworthy...

Helen Boaden at the Pollard Inquiry...

Meirion, I have since learned, has a very long track record of being suspected of leaking....
Asked why Merion who had the details of the Savile investigation had not been not been questioned till October 2012....

I think that is because he is regarded as untrustworthy at this point.
Later Helen Boaden stated

.... the allegation is a cover-up of a Newsnight investigation. So you wouldn't necessarily go to Meirion Jones to get the facts on that, since it is suspected that Meirion is the person who has decided it is a cover up.
Why would she or the BBC think that, maybe this email dated 7 December 2011 to a Mary Wilkinson is one reason?

Dealing with the BBC, which doesn't want to put out a piece about Jimmy Savile being investigated by police about sexual ... (reading to the words) ... because might damage the audience for Jim'll Fix It Christmas Special. At the moment my opinion of BBC management is ....
Was Merion aware an Impact producer had been assigned to give maximum coverage across the BBC if his investigation had been aired?

Why didn't persue the option to take it to Panorama?

To me it looks like he fabricated a scenary in his head that never took place and threw all his toys out the pram?

I would think the same thing, really. I don't blame Jones at all if he supected that. From the little I read, the senior executives (and Rippon) were the ones who didn't trust Jones much. The journalists at Newsnight seem to have a much better opinion of him. And, IMO, I already find doubtful the testimony of any senior executive or producer who worked there for years and says something like "I never heard any dark rumour about Savile". It was a quite common rumour at BBC, this is obvious.

We don't know BBC internal policies, we don't know if an investigation is halted on one show, the person producing it can find another one to broadcast. Maybe it is not a "written law" but an unspoken one. Frankly, if an investigation on something was halted on a show I'm part of, for whatever reason, and I was somehow involved in it's production, I would feel betrayed if they took it to another show in the same network.

IMO, anyone would think it was a cover-up. Savile was DEAD. If they felt it was a "taste" thing, why not wait a few months.? Why not ask for more witnesses? Savile's revelations would explode sooner and later, the BBC should have bradcasted this story, with or without Jones. Why BBC producers changed the focus of the story of Savile's paedophilia to a police cover-up?

The whole thing is still a cover-up. It's the establishment trying to save face. That is the nature of the beast.
Thankfully, the people can see right through them....

I wish Savile had been caught in the seventies at the height of his fame and banged up. Instead this monster was still abusing kids into his eighties. I wonder if someone in the establishment was protecting him as he was abusing kids and young women as far back as the fifties.

That is the $40,000 question that must be answered - but the establishment is in full denial mode now, so it will not be easy.
