This story was mentioned during The Wright Stuff this morning. They said apparently he first met JS in the 1970s and that his mother ('The Duchess') was friends with someone in the clergy? that or someone in his congregation in Lanarkshire, where he was based back then, if I remember right.

Just to clarify, if O'Brien is gay in any way, it is not in a healthy way, from the evidence we have it is in a way where he could impose himself on those who didn't feel able to fight back, i.e. he may primarily be a sexually predatory individual who picks on vulnerable people.

One thing besides being child abuser's that is. Both Jimmy Savile and Cyril Smith were larger than life characters and I'm not just meaning Cyril Smith's large build. Both were seen as doing good works. Jimmy with his hospital and charity work and Cyril for his work that he did for boys clubs in and around Rochdale.
The perfect cover-up's for child abuse and the fact that back in the seventies and eighties people knew what were going on but because these two men were larger than life in the media back then nobody said anything and we did have a society back then where people did look the other way and said nothing even though they were aware that something not right was going on. A real sweep it under the carpet attitude back then.
I was just reading over on Mail online about this girl being abused since she was eleven and not being believed by her father. Reminds me of Karin Ward's childhood where her mother would not believe her that she was being abused by her stepfather starting at four years of age. Both these girls were treated as liars by their folks.

I've just read an interesting comment by a psychologist elsewhere, who suggested that it looked to him like an abuser taking an advantage of being in a position of power, and that this is sadly not uncommon and is not necessarily sexual (even if sex is involved). In other words, someone who preys on the vulnerable but not necessarily for sex - rather, for the pleasure obtained in forcing the other person to do his bidding. A bit like a rich kid bullying a weaker kid and stealing his lunch money - he doesn't need the money, but that's not the point.

But of course, at the moment they are only allegations (and we don't even know what the allegations are other than "inappropriate behaviour"), so let's wait to see what further information comes out.

It could be because he had homosexual tendencies? Not likely. Frankly, I don't think Savile had any doubts and worries about his corrupted sexuality.
