I've just caught up with the previous episode and I have to agree that it's not bad. I like the inclusion of Mr Woolworth, I wonder if they were as close friends in real life. I read up that his wife was handicapped, so at least that part is true to life.

I wondered what was the point of including Miss Love in the story again, it would make sense if the scriptwriters intend to use her further in the story, so I hope they do even though I'm not that keen on the character. Interesting twist on the artist guy turning up like a bad penny, I wonder how far he'll go and if a relationship will develop between Groves and Mardle.

Best episode of the series by an absolute mile for me tonight; a right combination of the store with the Shackleton plot being integrated with the leadership question from Mrs. Bunting's death (and the likes of Crabbe helping out on the shop floor) plus the other storylines have moved on a notch. I have the feeling Harry will regret turning down Frank's offer, even if it was the wrong moment.

What I loved is everything had an edge to it; there's a feeling that all the relationships are now on a precipice whereas they were meandering on before.

Really enjoyed this episode. I have really enjoyed the slow burn of this series and loved seeing how the stories are coming together. Can't wait to see what they have in store for next week's season finale!

I love how she was put in her place tonight. I think Katherine Kelly plays the part perfectly; on top all riches and class but beneath there's more than a hit of coldness and steel.

He thinks that 'cause she does have feelings for him. We saw them flirting in the eps where she went to his studio to sit for the painting. Now he's trying to affect her via paying her daughter attention; and it does appear to be working a bit.

She did try telling him to stay away from the daughter last week but he's a persistent type as he knows that Rose has feelings for him. They have art, creativity and a romantic nature in common. I think we're meant to see Rose as a woman of her time: quite the caged bird, somewhat trapped in this genteel life (and marriage) when really she wants to be able to indulge her passion for art, her wilder side, and be out and about etc. That issue of women's position in society is being discussed though quite a few of the characters actually: Rose; Agnes being told to 'think of her career' and basically ditch Henri by Miss Ravilious; the suffragette movement with Miss Mardle deciding to attend the weekly meetings etc.

I wrote last time that poor Miss Bunting would throw herself into the river...sad. The train was even worse. I also had a feeling that Groves was attracted to Doris?-is that her name? And that his former lady friend is or will be out of the picture with him.

Can you imagine the present day Selfridges workers watching tonights episode when the train was late and Mr Selfridge was so understanding.
They probably don't get understanding when they have travel delays in 2013 lol

I find Aisling Loftus really irritating as Agnes Towler. I don't think she can really act. Her range of facial expression is limited and she keeps swallowing when the character has something to say to a superior, to indicate deference or nervousness or something.Furthermore, there's zilch chemistry with Gregory Fitoussi. As lovers they're not convincing.

In the '70s my mum used to work in the M&S Marble Arch store next door to Selfridges. There were quite a lot of bomb scares when both stores had to close and be evacuated. M&S staff were told to leave the shop immediately as soon as the alarm went off, not even to go back to the tills to lock them. Selfridges staff had to take the till drawers out and carry them!

Yes, and on top of that Henry is going to try to bring Rose "in from the cold". Except Rose doesn't look that mildly interested in being brought into his warmth.

Thank for posting. It helped me understand why Rose and the family, apart from Gordon, seem so detached from the store. Rose, her daughters and her mother-in-law don't have a role in the departmental store's proceedings.

The scene where he was going on about that Roddy guy (whether you think he is a prat or not) and Rose, when all along he does exactly what he wants with silly unstable Ellen and whoever the woman in red was at the end. Total hypocrite. I know he was "of his time" but still, I'd like to punch his lights out.

I agree! For once I found the episode entertaining, although Rosalie (Selfridge's eldest daughter) needs her ears cleaning out for not heeding the warning to keep away from the artist guy! I also had a feeling that Frank's not all that forgiving, especially when he was the one that pulled Harry out of the shit with Ellen. I know it was bad timing, but Harry could have said what he said better to him of all people.
