The Kickstarter Era?
I'll start by saying a big congrats to Veronica Mars and all her fans, 3 million and counting!
I'm not a fan yet, I watched a few episodes years ago and sort of drifted away but I plan to give it another go (been thinking about it for a while before the news hit). My question is, do we think this will cause an influx of shows trying to return from the dead, will networks try and abuse fandom and do we think any will succeed? I think that Veronica Mars worked because the fans, cast and creator all wanted to make it happen, where some cast members of other programs will have put the show behind them and may not be interested. Plus if the international rewards can be worked out then the money is simply a pre-order. What other shows have all three (fans, cast & creator/writers) interested enough to pull this off? No prizes for Firefly pitches ![]() Fingers crossed this can happen for Chuck tho #ChuckMovie |

I really want there to be a Community movie, so that's got to be up there for me.
I know a lot of people want a Firefly or Buffy movie through this but I don't think kickstarter will ever be able to raise the funds those kind of projects need. |

Legend of the Seeker for me. They'd get that made with no trouble.

Jericho... Maybe, as it did have a loyal and vocal fanbase (see the "Nuts" campaign), but the other two? Unlikely, IMO. |

Joss Whedon doesn't own Buffy, that one's unlikely to happen.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome - because SyFy would rather fund terrible movies and reality shows.
I read Joss's comments about Firefly and it really did seem that he had very little interest in reviving it even if he had time to spare. |

Oh... another.
While my dream would be a Firefly TV/DVD film, I'd also really love another Stargate one, preferably something to give Atlantis a proper finish. A pity that MGM had those financial issues a few years back, as IIRC we were originally going to get at least one more Stargate TV/DVD film until all that happened. |

I read that Bryan Fuller wanted to discuss Kickstarter with Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) regarding the pros and cons of Kickstarter. The report suggested Bryan Fuller considered Pushing Daisies too expensive to produce via kickstarter but it's certainly peaked his interest.
Josh Whedon has already responded regarding Kickstarter and Firefly. He's busy with Marvel stuff, Nathan Fillion is contracted elsewhere so for the time being no new Firefly. However, he doesn't rule it out for the future. Personally, I'd like to see Journeyman return but I'm probably the only one

Every series that had some kind of following deserves a movie to properly end it and give fans a final look at the world/characters they loved.
So I'd say bring on more of these fundraisers. |

Kickstarted should be used primarily for indie projects, rather than ones that can get funded by rich actors and directors already.

I don't see why Chuck is worthy of a film. It ran for five series and got a proper ending. Something Veronica Mars and Firefly didn't. Same with Buffy. It ran for seven years. This Kickstarter should really be for shows that were cancelled without a proper official ending.
I would like to see Pushing Daisies be revamped, personally. Or another Dead Like Me film as the open ending really made way of a potentially interesting second film. Or for Ghost Whisperer and Heroes to get a nice television movie to wrap up. But so many of the Heroes cast have moved on, i can't see it happening. |

I don't disagree that shows killed without an ending at all deserve a finish like Alphas for example, just Chuck was parked in such a way that you could still add to it and improve it's legacy. Plus the hoops we jumped through for season three, I have no doubt that a couple of movies could be funded. |

Palmerhwho, i see what you mean
Bryan Fuller has expressed interesting in using Kickstarter to bring back Pushing Daisies or Wonderfalls. Wonderfalls had huge dvd sales, so i was always surprised that never generated enough interest back then. |

Who here actually backs things on Kickstarter?
I do. I feel like I am helping to bring something to life, and at the same time I get some stuff for my money. |

this could be future,so many films that only break even or make tiny profit but are critically acclaimed or have cult followings dont often see sequels, this could change that
for me its buffy/angel/firefly obviously..also stuff like the new dredd movie getting a sequel would be nice i know joss is a big deal now but if there is any fear for serenity or buffy spin off he should set this up,worldwide he would get close to 10m! |

Joss has already said he has no plans to do anything for Firefly. He already has the next three years of his career sorted so he has to focus on that. Plus he wants Nathan Fillion to be done with doing Castle as well.

People need to move on from Firefly to be honest. It's a shame we didn't get more of it but Whedon has moved on, the cast too.
Maybe fans should as well. |

I'm a bit confused by the kickstarter thing? When someone invests in a movie they are hoping the movie makes it big so they can make a big profit. But if I invest in a movie on kickstarter I get nothing. Is that right or am I missing the point?
But I am very excited about the VM movie even if I didn't contribute |

I'd like to see a film of the wonderful old UK comedy-drama "The Book Group"- given
Anne Dudek is now much better known in the US, if she wants to return to TBG she could bring a potential film lotsa publicity. |

But you don't get anything if the movie does amazingly well. You merely get the satisfaction of knowing you helped bring your dream show back to the world. I want to see a Todd and the Book of Pure Evil KS campaign. Space were fools for cancelling that show as it was getting into its stride. |
