I thought it was better than what I thought it was going to be. Although, I agree about the teen girls being a bit too far fetched, but there is probably more to it than what first seems. I hope they're not going to go down the Carrie route, though. As for Norman and his mother, I think it's going to turn out to be a case of a fixation/attraction more on his part than hers, as I can't see them going down the incest route, I hope they don't, anyway.

I loved it!

I'm a massive fan if the full Psycho mythology and really like what they've done here.
The weird twisting of present day setting yet telling the story of young Norman is bizarre and fascinating.
The in-jokes were subtle "paper towels and spray cleaner".

I loved all the shots of the mansion, it's my favourite iconic image - that 'haunted house' looking down over the motel. Priceless!

Looking forward to episode 2

Enjoyed the second episode a lot more than the pilot, most of my complaints evaporated, particularly my criticism of Freddie Highmore, he seemed to settle into the role in this episode.

I'm still finding the show patchy (for the lack of a better word). I find it moves from one scene to the next too quickly, without any resoultion. Also, the dialouge could be better too. I'm going to stay with it but i'm expecting more.

I don't know what to make of the townspeople and this eye for an eye business. I think it will diminish Norman or his mother's actions if it turns out that the whole place is awash with oddballs and killers.

It moves as quickly as any other US show apart from Nu-Dallas which must cram in about 500 scenes in one episode.
Not sure what you mean by without resolution, surely it's obvious that this is going to be an odd/quirky programme that will give us resolution at the very end......if at all.

I understand that and fully expect it but i do feel the scenes end abruptly, when more can be done to expand upon what is happening e.g Norman attacking his brother without much provactation and the ending i know was symbolic of the 'eye for an eye' thing but it felt hollow because not much had proceeded it in terms of storytelling.

I took it as all the provocation needed was the brother being offensive to Mother -The Whore on his phone. Nothing else was required as the whole Psycho mythology revolves around Norman/Mother so Norman's outburst is natural "to him"

I hope that makes sense - it's difficult to get across.

I thought the latest episode took an interesting turn with regards to Norman's blackouts and hallucinations. I have a feeling that it was he who might have killed his father and might have actually killed the guy at the hotel too. Also, I wonder if the girl in the policeman's basement is real or is it something he's conjured up to justify going after him for getting too close to his mother. Anyway, I will be tuning in again to watch next week.

I think you are right about killing his father, but we know it was his mother who killed them man who raped her. We saw her stab the guy.

I'm absolutely loving this but I am a massive Psycho fan so that was inevitable.
But I do genuinely think its very good, I like the odd blend of it being set in the modern day yet having old-style homes and settings etc.

Just watched the first 3 episodes and I really enjoyed it. A cross between Twin Peaks and American Horror Story.

That probably is the case, I just wondered if he might have imagined some of it. Like when he saw his mother in his bedroom when she wasn't really there.

And "the show" told us that his mother wasn't really in his bedroom by showing what was happening from a different camera angle, revealing that Norma wasn't in the room. In the case of the killing of Keith Summers, there was nothing like that, and Norman in fact wasn't even present.

Surely this belongs in the US Shows forum. It is neither science fiction nor fantasy.

I'm looking forward to this as well as the Hannibal series that starts soon. There hasn't really been any decent mid-season shows this year.
2 shows that should storm American and British television.

The show has been renewed
Good!

A question - is mother meant to be molesting Norman?

I don't understand your rollseyes smilie in reference to the category where this thread belongs.....

I don't think it belongs in this Cult section - how could it be deemed Cult before it even began. Psycho the film isn't a cult film.

This is simply a US TV series like Dexter or CSI, it is not cult, sci-fi or fantasy.

Exactly. If that other person was going to disapprove of what I said above, he or she could have articulated some kind of argument for being dismissive, like I just did now to back up my giving them this:

The moaning stopping in the first place would be real nice. The moaning now should stop to. The first or second bout of moaning can go first, I don't mind.

What on earth are you talking about, that makes no sense at all.

Anyway @MoreTears - I completely agree with you, this doesn't belong in Cult at all.

This thread isn't about the film Psycho, it's about a TV Show that I felt at the time will go down the cult route. I still don't think it'll turn out to be as popular as the shows you've mentioned. Feel free to start a thread where you think one should be if you don't agree. No-one is stopping you and so the moaning in this one isn't really necessary.
