He's only 20. Which is practically a baby in track and field. If he can't achieve this year then in 4 years I'm sure he'll stand a real good chance at a gold.

Hes a beast isnt he , hasn't been doing the discuss long , he has so much raw talent hope he sticks with it afterwards whatever happens in the final as its great to see top class Brits in the throwing events something weve been lacking badly for a while.

He was good. If he sticks with it he could be a gold medal contender for Rio.

I'm so pleased for him, fingers crossed for the finals.

He's a really impressive young man, not only an Olympic finalist in the discus at the age of 20, he's also an excellent rugby player and can run 100m in 11.02sec (not bad for someone who weighs 20 stones!!!).

In addition to his sporting prowess, he excelled academically at school and won a place at Oxford to read law, but put that on hold to train for London 2012.

All round great guy.

Talk about a raw talent! He threw the discus like he'd never thrown it before. Might be one for the future.

Lawrence to try out for NFL

Personally I think it's a mistake, but I can see his reasons for wanting to give it a go. There a lot of money on offer, even for middling career as a defensive player

If and when he comes back to athletics, hope his body hasn't been too battered by NFL

It would take him at least 4 years to learn any position, not having played the game before. The chances of him making it in the NFL are very slim. His size and weight at the positions he would play would be far from exceptional -and his athletic ability wouldn't be far in excess (if at all) either. There is a recent World Junior Champion in the discus - Margus Hunt - in the NFL Draft later this month. With good athletic talent and 3 years playing at College level he is considered VERY raw - he'll be picked as a long term project. He might be good but at least equally likely he'll sink wothout trace.

I don't blame Lawrence for looking at this - or the teams having a look - but I doubt anything will come of it.

Now - if he went back to rugby........

It amazes me why someone who has never played the game before thinks they can get a place on a squad against the hundreds of footballers who have played the position for at least 5 years.
