I do not think that he has been named by the police, only by the media.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/ma...lt-teenage-boy

A force spokesman said: "North Yorkshire police can confirm that a 73-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a historic child sex abuse investigation in Harrogate.

"The man was arrested in Kingston upon Thames on Friday 26 April 2013. Following questioning, he was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

"The complaint relates to an incident that occurred in the late 1970s when the victim was a young boy.

"It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
Where do you think they get the names from!

Secret arrests, were they secret or just not announced to a baying media ? has he considered that if this was a normal person we would probably know absolutely nothing about it, does he mean that all celebs should be named in the press to show action is being taken whilst ordinary people are not or does he want all ordinary people to receive as much print space ? Or does he mean they are secret as in less police officers are tipping off the press for cash these days.

As for his comment

“It’s a fundamental principle that the openness of the criminal justice system starts when someone is arrested.”

Does he need reminding that so does the Contempt of Court Act.

I bet some emails will be filtered during Liza Tarbuck ( Her Father is Jimmy ) - Radio 2 show this coming Saturday..There can be some nasty people.
1) I doubt she'll be doing the show somehow, given her father's arrest it'll probably be seen as best if she didn't.

2) Anyone sending threats or similar could be arrested for sending malicious communications.

And the media as we see picked up on the interview in that article in 2003 so one has to ask why did nothing happen and did Nigel Kennedy go to the police ?

In this article he is apparently appalled bythe latest allegations

Actually buried in that otherwise unpalatable article are some interesting points.

"... Taking girls to one’s dressing room, bottom pinching and groping in cars hardly rank in the annals of depravity ...it makes abuse banal, and reduces the sympathy that we should feel for victims of really serious assaults"

.... This national trawl for historical victims was an open invitation to all manner of folk to reinterpret their experience of the past as one of victimisation

"generates a demand that criminal courts should afford accusers therapy, by giving them ‘a voice’. This function is far removed from the courts’ traditional role, in which the state must prove defendants guilty beyond reasonable doubt".

".... many reforms introduced in the name of child protection involve sweeping attacks on fundamental Anglo-American legal rights and safeguards, such as the presumption of innocence"

"I do not support the persecution of old men. The manipulation of the rule of law by the Savile Inquisition – otherwise known as Operation Yewtree – and its attendant zealots poses a far graver threat to society than anything Jimmy Savile ever did."

Wonder what the abused think of the above opening statement.

I'd prefer to see prosecution based on guilt, and evidence, rather than persecution based on age and celebrity status.

But what if prosecution is based on guilt and evidence, and some of them just happen to be aged celebrities?

Re the Hewston article, MWT has his say:

I am quite astonished by the views held by Baraba Hewston. She makes such statements that surely warrant some professional body intervention
