Includes what will likely be a rather controversial one!

Den of Geek Spoiler-Free Review:

It's a good episode, this. Don't go into it expecting The Doctor's Wife 2, and instead look for an entertaining reinvention of a foe that desperately needed a retune, and you'll likely get a lot more out of it. Never have the cybermen felt more dangerous and lethal. And you'll have little doubt that Neil Gaiman is a full-on Doctor Who geek too. No doubt at all.

How can you accidentally cook a steak in fairy liquid? Or is that a euphemism?

Sorry, that's got nothing to do with the episode.

"The story is fantastic and the characters are great but the doctor doesn't spend half the episode explaining the history of the cybermen so its disappointing"

Judge the episode for what it is rather than what it isn't. I'm sure this reviewer wanted "asylum of the daleks" to be 45 minutes of the different dalek varieties talking to each other about how much they've moved on rather than the excellent story we ended up with.

That's exactly what I thought. The reviewer obviously doesn't watch the programme for the intriguing plot, scintillating script or finely drawn characterisation, but for the big shiny monsters.

So it now looks to be a very good story with hints of Jekyll and Hyde but just doesn't give a very big explanation on the Cybermen. It does sound very good, just not the story I had hoped for. It looked as if it was going to be a massive story that would bring the Cybermen back to being great foes but if they're just background characters how is it supposed to that? I just hope it delivers.

Just wait and see, I bet it will be a very good episode which reinvents the Cybermen as credible enemies once more.

If ever any confirmation was needed that pre-transmission doctor who reviewers don't know what they're talking about - here's a selection of pre-TX reviews for the worst episode of matt smith's tenure, night terrors:

http://www.cultbox.co.uk/reviews/epi...er-free-review

5/5

http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/doctor-w...er-free-review

"a whale of a time"

So yeah - based on its muted response I'm sure "a nightmare in silver" will end up being one of the most edifying and rich episodes ever, like "the god complex" last year.

Why the BBC even bothers to upload the episodes to the previews service is beyond me.
