Philips 42PF9967D Vs Pana TH42PV500
People,
I think I have reduced my decision too one of the two TVs above. Any one have any experiences/opinoins or views on these!! Also, any other TV recommended in 42" HD Ready Plasma would be interesting to read! Thanks |

I have a TH37PV500 which of course is the little brother to the TH42PV500.
What impressed me most was the quality of the SD picture. With no HD yet SD quality is a must. I actually think the SD quality beats my 5 year old CRT which was spot on! DVD via component superb (can only be surpassed by HD). |

Tim,
Why do you say that? The 9967 is a quite new model and the Panasonic is about 8 months old!?!? |

I'm a recent (three or four weeks) owner of a TH42PV500, having previously had a Panny Quintrix 32-inch CRT. In my opinion the picture is fantastic, once you set it up properly (something like DVD Essentials helps). It's incredibly 'clean' and surprisingly bright, even with contrast at less than half.
This is all with SD stuff - I haven't and can't try HD yet. DVDs via RGB and Freeview (via a Pace Twin PVR and RGB again) are both lovely. Of course Freeview quality depends on the channel and the compression - MPEGging is much more noticeable at this size. Oddly, the inbuilt Freeview tuner still doesn't look quite as good as the Pace, even after much fiddling. The EPG is much better though. The black levels aren't, of course, quite as good as my old CRT, but I can't say they've been bothering me either. It's only a slight difference. There definitely isn't any fuzziness to TV broadcasts, beyond the usual MPEG artifacts. So that's my two pennies... |
