Marilyn most certainly COULD act, as she proved in Bus Stop, and The Prince and The Showgirl, on which she acted Olivier right off the screen. Even the revered Dame Sybil Thorndike observed, "That girl knows more about screen acting than the rest of us put together." She was also a terrific comedienne, and very funny in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. She had real star quality, and to compare her to those two dogs, Katona and Price is an insult to her memory. The fact that she is even more famous more than 50 years after her death than when she was a star, proves that she was something very special.
Beautifully put.
I really loved her in "Some Like it Hot" aswell.

I can't believe this is for real.

Suddenly the entire universe makes even less sense.

Of course, the irony being that Marilyn Monroe IS her generations Kerry Katona. She couldn't act, she couldn't sing, she slept with married men and BARELY hid the fact in the public eye. She obtained fame based entirely on her sex appeal, and she died troubled.

Kerry obviously isnt dead, but she has dabbled in drugs, and she is also talentless.

Although it always makes me chuckle when people think Mrs Monroe is somehow the stable of class, when she was her day and ages Katie Price. She is venerated for the very thing we mock people for now (only famous because she is pretty, in the most boring of ways)

BIB - And one of the married men she slept with, was the much admired and universally revered JFK, who, along with his brother Robert, used Marilyn like a sex toy. I doubt Marilyn had to drag him to the bedroom, he was a right lothario.

Marilyn: white skirt, subway grating, iconic photograph.
Kerry: shell suit.

Marilyn: "Happy birthday, Mr President" sung in a husky voice
Kerry: "That's why mums come to Iceland"

Marilyn: Famous set of silkscreen prints by Andy Warhol in art galleries worldwide, worth millions.
Kerry: Full page ad for Cash Lady, worth 2670% APR (while it lasted)

It's got to be about publicity (any publicity) for a third rate show. It certainly isn't about the talent, or the suitability for the role.

Well said, Walter. Only a fool could equate Monroe with the vulgar talentless likes of Katona and Price.
Agreed.

It's laughable they would be compared at all.

Is she serious? She's nothing like Marilyn in personality, or looks. This musical will likely turn out to be a joke! Why the hell did they choose Kerry for? Do the makers of this musical want to be laughed at?
You are aware of what "acting" is, aren't you? People rarely portray themselves.

That said, Kerry Katona isn't an actress is she? This does seem like a rather random choice.

and all in the same week as it announced an opera based on the life of Jade Goody, I despair I really do. In my opinion, both will be monumental flops. (I hope) Remember all that hoo-ha about Jade Goody the musical? at least that didn't come to fruition, thank god - along with the proposed statue and blue plaque.

I remember when Michael Jackson announced his 'This Is It' concerts, I said to my wife 'Those gigs will never happen in a million years'. I wasn't expecting quite the circumstances, but was utterly sure the concerts were not going to take place.

As soon as I read this article, the same conviction came over me. Katona will never play Marilyn on a public stage.I cannot think of anyone less suited to the role or the work involved. And as for having her debut in front of industry insiders? It would be kinder to throw her to wolves. Actual wolves.
Agreed. Strangely I said the same re the Jacko concerts, but just thought he'd find a way out of them.

When I read the article re Monroe, and Katona potentially playing her, I thought it was a joke.

Marilyn was beautiful, a very funny comedy actress, had a superb figure, bags of charisma and was sex on legs.

Kerry Katona is the exact opposite of all of the above and simply is not capable of portraying her in an acting role.

I am still

There are probably dozens of talented actresses who could play this part. This will bomb, Kerry can't act, can't sing and doesn't have the looks. They could pick a check out girl better than Kerry.

Marilyn was a very talented actress. My favourite of her films is Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but I also love Some Like It Hot, The Prince and the Showgirl, and Monkey Business. Most of her films are pretty good, but her acting abilities often got overlooked. She was brainy as well - not the dumb blonde that many people believe her to be. I can only guess that she must be spinning in her grave right now at the news that KK is playing her. I honestly can't think of a worse choice to play Marilyn.

They could probably go into the street, pick any girl at random, and that girl would still do a better job than KK.

Yes of course, and I should also have mentioned The Seven Year Itch, in which she was quite luminous.

WAGS the Musical? Starring the talentless plastic Lizzie Cundy, why on earth would anyone want to see that? Ye gods, cannot believe it exists.
It kinda makes sense that the same director wants to cast the equally talentless Katona in this new musical, theatre standards must have really slipped.

oh dear, this is "stunt casting" possibly at its very worst and she`s not even an actress. her comment about " a successful career in drama has always been a main goal of mine" is quite a revelation, but nothing prepared me for the shocking glowing comment from her director. it sounds like he's discussing an entirely different person.

who knows, she may well surprise critics, but i think her main motivation for doing this role is the paycheck and i think the real reason for her casting is for the shock factor, which is already generating publicity.

Why do so many fat women with bad bleach jobs think they're Marilyn Monroe?
