Millenium Fanwank.

I get the impression this new SW is going to be one long exercise in such, playing straight into the hands of fawning SW nostalgists.

Wouldn't surprise me if that c*ckend Pegg turns up in it either.

Oh dear god, Ford, Hammil and Fisher all back as well as the Falcon?

Don't get me wrong, im a HUGE fan of the original trilogy, but this was a chance at a proper franchise regeneration, something new. Maybe its a hat tip cantina scene and nothing substantial? If they are the main focus of the movie, im not sure i have any interrest in watching it.

Cameos, fine, anything more? No thanks!

Wish they'd just leave it alone now. Obviously, they won't, but............

FIFY. We shouldn't ever forget how bad the prequels were.

This is news? Really?

Isn't this along the lines of - "Sci Fi/fantasy setting back for Star Wars Episode 7"

I will now put my neck on the line and make my own prediction "Lightsabers back for SW Ep7!"

"It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's fast enough for you old man. What's the cargo? "

Fast it may be but Han is getting on a bit now and probably only drives it to Tesco on a Sunday at 20 mph with the hazard flashes on.

As a child of the 90s who was brought up watching Star Wars on VHS, the Falcon is the stuff of boyhood dreams.

Sod you miserable lot - I can't wait to hear that baby fire up on screen again.

But they are going to do this eventually anyway so why complain ?

I wouldn't put too much store by what Han Solo says. A parsec is a measure of distance, not time. It's like saying 'I made the run from London to Brighton in 55 miles.

Hey if you drove across a couple of fields / backgardens you could maybe shave a couple of miles off that.

Perhaps Han found a "short cut" to Kessel?

Oh God, people are now going to start quoting from the EU and mention the black holes around The Maw / Kessel and how Han did take the "short way" to Kessel.

Good news: Pegg has apparently ruled himself out. Still a question mark over Benedict Cumberbatch mind. A bit better, but he showed his limitations as an actor in Tinker Tailor the other week. Not that that matters here of course.

Does Abrams ever really do 'new' though? He just polishes up back-dated concepts and franchises mostly. A sheen of newness, a few fresh faces, but underneath much the same, old components, playing safe etc. His trick is to work on projects where this isn't really an issue.

I suppose SW is too steeped in pop-culture mythology to do anything truly new. Dusting down the Falcon has already done the job for some it seems. And looking at the box-office hike the Vader-empowered Sith enjoyed ($848m) compared to the relatively lowly returns for Clones ($649m), you can see how much needed the presence of the past is.

....
City of London to The City of Brighton and Hove is 66.2 miles down the A23.
If you use the A23 and M23 it's only 54.3 miles.
Han likes motorways...

The reports a few months back were that in addition the episodes 7, 8 & 9 there would also be new films in between the episodes, unrelated to what was going on those movies. So at this stage is appears those who want continuity will be served in the episodes, whilst there will also be new material for those those who want a fresh start. Of course, no matter they do, there will still be moaning in abundance.

You can expect more complaints for origin stories, perhaps.
