Can you connect a Youview box to your WiFi TV over Ethernet and use the Youview services over the WiFi of your TV?

No. At the moment, and for the forseeable future, YouView's networking is restricted to internet service reception. There is no DLNA.

There is talk of eventual plans to take the YouView interface to non-recording boxes (likely from TalkTalk first) and to televisions to allow the user to access the catchup and other IPTV services. TalkTalk already have plans for a "lite" box for early next year though this may be brought forward.

The answer to your question is "not officially". In fact you can avoid using a USB wifi dongle (the "official" method that has not been implemented as yet) by getting a router and using it in "bridge" or "client" mode.

I use a TP-Link one which draws its power from the 5v output on the rear USB socket (it has at least that use! ) The link below is for the lowest "buy it now" price including postage on eBay from a UK based seller listed at the moment. I have found that it will work in "repeater" mode and still connect to the box using the supplied ethernet cable. In repeater mode it also extends your wifi coverage which can be handy.

YouView boxes are not Freeview HD boxes for technical reasons. The main one is that they do not support a program called MHEG-IC which is used for both the red button pages and to connect to the internet for streamed TV. YouView uses a different version of IPTV which is not currently compatible.

This problem also affects the channels accessed through portals on LCNs 225 to 238 even though some are run by Connect which one of the partners in YouView, the transmitter company Arqiva, now owns.
