Paul McCartney has announced a new studio album today and as a preview they have released the title track 'New'. I have to say, I like it!
It's produced by Mark Ronson and it almost sounds like it would fit on Sgt Pepper or Magical Mystery Tour yet at the same time it wouldn't be out of place on Flowers in the Dirt, Flaming Pie or Memory Almost Full.

it sounds a bit Got to Get You Into My Life in one part, a bit Your Mother Should Know in another and even a bit like The Rutles Double Back Alley and the Mr. Men theme.
Its rather good though and a bit of an ear worm.
I'd also add George Harrison's 'Here comes the Moon' to that list. Very similar in places.
It's a good song, and seems to be getting positive reviews from a lot of people. Looking forward to the album now.
His last few albums have been quite good. A little late career renaissance. Memory Almost Full was a cracking album, as was the Fireman album as well, and Chaos & Creation.
Its been a fair while since he's made a stinker. Fingers crossed I've not tempted fate now.
I've not heard the Fireman album, but agree that he's not made a bad album for a while now.
I really hope he tours the UK soon as I've never seen him live and want to before its too late.
He said in a radio interview today he hopes to do a UK show around xmas!! You HAVE to go!!!! A Paul gig is the best feeling ever I'm lucky enough to be have seen him play live 16 times, or is it 17, i'm old and forget things (well, i'm 38!), but trust me, if you go you will not regret it. Though having said that i do wish he'd play more solo stuff at his gigs, but i guess now he is 71 we're just happy to see him at all
Agree with this, I've been 6 times and although his voice isn't as strong as it once was it is still an amazing experience.
Have to admit though that when I saw him live it was excellent. Looking back at the footage his voice wasn't good at all but the whole experience was great
I think he has just released the most radio friendly song first and the album sounds like it will be very varied, with something for all Macca fans. Hosannah from all the rumours, sounds like it might be the 'classic' McCartney track we have all been waiting for.
Don't mind his vocals at all, would rather hear his 71 slightly rusty vocals over almost anyone else. Something pretty reassuring about that...

The second single is called Queenie Eye, it's brilliant!

Lyrically really rather clever.
Can't wait for the 14th. Us small band of Macca (DS) fans should gather in earnest on Monday...:):)
We saw him at the Royal Albert Hall in March, it was superb, it was the first time I had seen him. Did apply for Radio 2 tickers to see him, but seeing only 60 available, not holding out much hope!
Didn't get tickets either, last chance hope with the Radio 6 twitter competition.
Thanks, will try that.
I've just listened to the entire album...and it is superb!! It's very diverse in terms of styles yet it all fits, if that makes sense. It's a bit like Chaos, Flaming Pie and Band on the Run in that all the songs sound like they are from this album. Giles Martin has done a great job of tying everything together. Even the more 'Out There' more electronic songs fit in beside the likes of New. It's probably my favourite album of his since Flaming Pie.
I don't get the Off the Ground comparisons at all!
I think Everybody Out There has been compared to Hope of Deliverance. Not sure where this vibe is coming from because most people have only heard clips for the rest of the comparisons. For me this album was patchy, where Paul tried too hard to be a Earth spokesman/environmental warrior.Though I love Winedark, Golden Earth Girl and The Lovers that Never Were.
So I'm glad if you have heard the album you don't think they are similar..
Off the Ground is one of my least favourite Macca albums but I love this one.
I can't wait...:)
Hopefully it's nothing like that album. I'm still recovering from Biker Like An Icon.
'New' is a great track so it's giving hope for a good album, something he hasn't produced since Flaming Pie if I'm totally honest.
Very upbeat melodic album. I would say I love it as much as MAF, Flaming Pie and Driving Rain but not quite as much as Chaos.
Still brilliant though..
Ha ha yep Biker is awful..
