Ventriloquism sometimes seems to be a way of insulting or saying iffy things to tv hosts without the risk of getting a smack in the face. It weren't me,guv, it's me munky!

I didn't really say that, by the way

Jeff Dunham from the US with his Achmed the dead terrorist puppet is very funny.
I like him too. But he needs more variety. Saw him last year.

The guy Kevin Johnson who I mentioned said exactly that in the Conti documentary.

He said the puppet insults the audience member and then he is already apologising for it so the member thinks it's ok cause the master is apologising but it's also the master who is giving the voice in the first place.

My favourite growing up was always Ronn Lucas. Used to love his show on the BBC.

I think Ray Alan was a guest on that once, I remember them sitting on a bench, with Scorch and Lord Charles chatting.

Paul zerdin is one of the absolute best! Little Sam is a hero of mine!
Totally agree with you here, Paul is amazing....
I used to love it when he would get members of the audience up on stage and put the mouth masks on them and then do the voices for them.....

I watched it again last night because I wanted to see the hynotism routine.

It reminded me of this guy.

Kevin Johnson. He does 'kung fu' dubbed lip movements

Oh wow! He's brillliant. Thanks

Yes. Even if I wasn't terrified of the dummies/puppets I would agree with this.

Nina Conti is superb, and bloody gorgeous too, but genuinely talented and funny. Jeff Dunham on the other hand is terrible, his mouth and throat move may too much, the dummies are shit and he's just not funny.

Neville King once got me and a mate on stage at a local working men's club many many years ago and embarrassed the life out of us by asking us questions then answering for us in ridiculous voices . He was brilliant. But Ray Allan was the master imo. Never been a better ventriloquist.

Nothing beats Rod Hull. Pure anarchy. Emu didn't speak, but didn't need to. Amazing act. The concept of a puppet that loved children but saw adults as fair game for getting their heads kicked in was genius.

Funnily enough he never bothered Billy Connolly - maybe due to Connolly informing him that should the bird attempt to 'do a Parky' on him the bird's f****** neck and Hull's f****** arm would be broken without hesitation

When Billy Connolly did that, Emu should have whispered in Rod's ear, and Rod should have said "yes Emu I agree, he is truly a dour Jock"

Saw Conti with a new routine on John Bishop's Christmas Show

Conti wasn't very good. The act using the mouth piece was bad enough but now she's got a big dummy for a person to get into.
She said this dummy was supposed to be an Eastern European plumber or something.
The dummy look more Latino or Chinese.

She did have nice legs though.
