I love this song. But it seemed like an afterthought when released as a single after four dance tunes.. I do wish it got more recognition though. It sounds like a soundtrack to a love movie/story

It remains the best power ballad in years. It should have been released as the second single around xmas time instead of Broken Heels. Releasing it as a single well over a year after the album came out was a silly move as it was never going to do anything by that stage.

Yeah it shows in sales and didn't they release a different version of this than the album?

I don't usually like ballads but I like this song. It shows off her singing voice quite well.

You're right but it was only a very subtle difference between the single and album versions...not enough for most people to purchase the single version if they already had the album one.

If memory serves me right I think they changed some of the big notes

Yeah it didn't do the song justice but the song itself is a great power ballad.

The Silence was one of my favourite tracks from Overcome. It really should have been the second single in January, instead of Broken Heels which was pretty average at best. She also gave great performances on The Paul O'Grady Show and X-Factor. I didn't mind the video, it was quite interesting and Alex looked better than she did in the All Night Long video. Definitely one of the best power ballads and it's a huge shame that it flopped.

The only mistake was pushing it back for a later release. It was planned to be the third single of Overcome but then it ended up being the final song from Overcome. I'm sure it would have done better she hadn't pushed it back for the uptempo tracks. I think they even filmed The Silence video before All Night Long.

The Silence was meant to be the 3rd single after Broken Heels. She even performed it on the Paul O' Grady show and announced it to the BBC, but then Syco decided to change it to All Night Long.

The single version has more choir, extra piano and violins and edited ad-libs at the end of the song.

I agree. This track is phenomenal...I don't really care for the video to be honest because the track itself is one of her best.

Between The Sheets is also one of her best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNzKeu6WfYE

The single mix fits the song better imo. One of my faves off Overcome!

A phenomenal singer generally let down by weak material, imo. I agree that The Silence is one of her best songs though. I really hope she does well with her next album.

Incredible song with an amazing vocal that only Alex could deliver. This should have been released as the album's second single instead of the awful (sorry!) Broken Heels.

I hope when Alex finally releases new material, it will be more in the vein of amazing power pop ballads like The Silence and not the dull dross that was on her New Rules EP.

My favourite song from Overcome. It was a huge mistake for Alexandra to release 4 dance tracks before a ballad. In my opinion it should have gone:

1. Bad Boys
2. The Silence
3. All Night Long
4. Start Without You
5. Dumb (if she really wanted a fifth single).

It's a shame she hasn't had much success since her first album. She's an amazing singer and performer, I hope she manages to bounce back.

Totally agree with the people who say that it should have been released around Christmas 2009 as the second single. It could have been massive.

Not releasing the Silence after Bad Boys or Broken Heels was one of many bad decisions made in Alexandra Burke's post X-Factor career. I'm in the minority who don't like the single version. I find the extra production a bit too much and I don't like how the middle 8 and some other parts were edited out.

One of my favourite songs.Could have been massive all over the world if it wasn't for Syco.Regarding Alex's career now, it's a complete mess. She has a full album with big name producers complete since February but who knows if we'll ever hear it?

Soon

I hear her stint on The Bodyguard isn't going great. Her reviews have been mixed and tickets sales have slumped compared to the huge sells outs when Bev Knight did it.
