No but that's clearly not going to stop TV3 from trying though.
It's the Love / Hate effect unfortunately. By the sounds of things, it won't be quite as extreme as that show. I think the family in Red Rock might just be a bit dodgy a la Kat and Alfie.
I don't mind Love/Hate (though it is overrated at times and has it's share of dire actors too) but Red Rock would be better off not trying to be too gangster-ish though.
Here's the first onscreen promo. It doesn't make a great deal of sense to me yet as I don't recognise all of the characters but it looks like the Kiely father is being arrested for something involving the Hennessy mother, one of the cops may have something going on with a schoolgirl and Sharon Cleere is a cop but is locked up in a cell for some reason.
On a side note, the promotional campaign has really kicked off as roughly 75% of the bus shelters I passed today had Red Rock posters on them and I saw at least two buses with Red Rock plastered all over the side of them.

The Xpose presenter says to tune in on the 7th and 8th of January so it must be airing on Wednesdays and Thursdays?? If so, the Thursday episode will be up against Ros na Run. I thought they'd try to spread it out a bit across the week. Two nights in a row kind of says "we have nowhere else to put it in the schedule".
There's been a couple of threads about this show now but I thought I'd make one specific thread for any further announcements about the development of the show like casting, planned storylines etc. now that it has been officially announced that it is going into production. It's been a few years since a soap on this scale has been launched on Irish or UK TV so I thought it would be interesting to see how it all comes together.
What we know so far is that it will start airing in 2015 and will run twice a week for a year initially with 104 episodes ordered. Irish production company Element Pictures who have made Irish films like The Guard, Garage and What Richard Did will co-produce it along with UK producer Company Pictures who have made Skins and Shameless. Former EE producer John Yorke will work on the show. There is no name or setting yet but given that they will be filming in TV3's Dublin studios, it is likely that the setting will be Dublin.
As more news is announced regarding the show's name and casting, I will post it here and if anyone comes across any articles that I haven't posted yet please share them.
Let's give this one a chance though. One set in a police station is an interesting departure from the usual soaps set in suburbia or on a street. It doesn't seem to be exclusively a "police soap" either, even though they feature very prominently in it.

OK so the few Irish soaps we've had since TV began have been a mixed bag but there's been just as many good ones as there were bad. In my opinion, Fair City is awful, I'm not going to dispute that but the others have had their moments. I wouldn't write them all off as rubbish.
It's a pity that they have the Thursday night ep up against Ros na Run, but then again that's something that the soap had to contend with when Corrie had its Thursday night ep for a few years. The trailer ia brilliantly edited and gives a suitably ambiguous insight into the storylines that we can expect from the show. I love the song that they've picked for the promo as well. They had the Kiely mother and daughter being interviewed on that afternoon chat show on TV3 earlier in the week.
