Installing Humax myself

Hi

I have an HD ready TV and am thinking of buying a Humax HDCI-2000, the only thing is I do not have a dish or Sky. How do I go about fixing up my own dish and locating it and wiring it up?

Help please.

You don't bother - buy a 9200t and save yourself the hassle and the subsciption fees!

Also, am I correct in thinking that the Humax HDCI-2000 isn't compatible with Sky's pay services? Ie. all the stuff worth watching?

The only HD stuff I think it'd be able to view is the BBC test stuff*, which is from a different Astra satellite anyway, so you'd have to keep repointing your dish.

* Yes, and the World Cup. But that's a big outlay for a 3 week long competition.

I've got a very good (and very expensive!) B&O 28" tube TV

It's the best picture I've ever seen.

Any larger screen that I've seen (Tube, Plasma, LCD, projector) is worse than this.
Frankly, I wouldn't want a bigger screen in my lounge.

However, if you want a huge screen, then HD will give you comparable quality to a normal definition smaller set.

incidentally,

"This year sees two major television anniversaries - the launch of the world's first regular service of high definition television from Alexandra Palace in North London on November 2nd 1936 and re-launch on June 7th 1946 after the war."

High Definition in this context was 405 lines!!!

so given that I'm extremely happy with the picture quality on my 32" set it's probably not worth going HD unless I want a screen thats twice that size then ?

which I don't really I don't even have that much free wallspace for a picture that size

cool summat I don't have to buy then

ooo and I remember 405 line telly ... could have been 625 though I wasn't that good at counting at the time I was only a year or two old

big brown bakelite box with a whopping 9" screen in the corner of the room

interestingly it took up about the same space as the 32" jobbie I've got now, it would probably be worth more as an antique though

plus ca change, plus ca meme chose

Ah, that was 405 line! Coo... we must have been posh - seem to remember ours was 14 (or maybe 15) inches, and you could count every line!
