My hummer just died

Got up this morning ready to enjoy the OTA update, but no, the box was unresponsive, and so rebooted with the switch on the back, now the loader gets to 100% and then the screen goes blank and the lcd shows "- - - -" I've left it for 15 mins in case it was doing the updated, but it never comes back to like, and the buttons have no effect.

Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to loose my 70 programs!

Is it possible for you to connect the hummer to your PC. If you can I would try to manually update to the latest loader and firmware, fingers crossed this will fix the problem.

Mine's doing exactly the same. I got the Software Updated prompt & clicked OK, then it died. Loads to 100 then powers off.

Just discovered that Humax have sent the OTA update when their support office is closed at the weekend. That's really helpful!

These suggestions have been provided by Humax:

If the unit is stuck in Standby mode (4 dashes on the display), then you can try the following to resolve:

1. Power off at the rear
2. Disconnect Aerial
3. Switch ON
4. If the unit can then be switched on carry out a Default setting
5. When the unit restarts insert the aerial cable so there is signal when the auto search appears

Or

1. Power off at rear
2. Hold in Standby button on front of unit
3. Power ON (with Standby button still held)

Thanks Barry.

The latter worked for me eventually, although I had also disconnected the antenna to try to hook it up to my PC. Seems OK now.

By eventually, you mean you had to try several times? I've tried a few times, but still dead. I don't have a serial cable at home, so I'll have to wait until Monday to try and flash it at work.

Anyone else got any ideas how to reset the machine (without loosing all the data, and without using an rs232)?

I've just reflashed the box with loader 04.09 and the v1.00.06 software, and it still doesn't boot.

Any ideas?

Ring (i.e. not email) and talk to technical support.

Mine did the same and had to go off to be repaired - it needed a new motherboard.

Now fixed, took it to John Lewis, and they worked their magic, i.e. pressed some buttons on a key board and a shiny new box appeared :-) obviously I lost my 70 odd programs, but at least the box is not dusty anymore

I got this problem of an unresponsive box yesterday, which would not come out of standby, either by using the remote or the standby button on the box. It would not restart either by simply powering off and on using the swirch at the rear.

I was able to restart it using the method in Barry's post above.

1. Power off at rear
2. Hold in Standby button on front of unit
3. Power ON (with Standby button still held)

The next two or three times that I restarted the box I had to use this method again. Then just as I was thinking about reupdating the loader software from my PC the box started again normally. I have tested it again several times and it continues to start normally.

I am now rather unsure whether or not I have a problem with the box and, if so, whether it is a hardware or software problem.
