Samsung Auto Wide switching
I have just got a LE23R41B, and it seems to perform, except that I can't get it to correctly scale video which is broadcast in 4:3 format.
The Auto Wide option does not seem to be available when using component input, does this mean that the TV does not support the line 23 WSS part of Active Format Descriptor ? Even when using one of the other video inputs, SCART composite, SCART RGB, RF, which do allow the Auto Wide setting, it seems to have no effect, 4:3 pictures are displayed the full width of the screen. My video source is a Toppy, which I am confident is providing AFD signalling via both line 23 and SCART pin 8. Has anyone with a similar Samsung model got this working? |

If you select the 4:3 mode (not auto-wide or 16:9) it will display everything in 4:3, except when the SCART source signals it's in widescreen in whcih case it then switches automatically! |

Does the tv set up have an option to set the way 4:3 is shown?
2nd, My understanding is that component connections can't carry the switch signal, so you would have to change it manually anyway. |

Thanks for the replies.
The menu options for display size are Auto Wide, Wide, Panorama, Zoom and 4:3. Logically, Auto Wide should set the size and aspect ratio according to the AFD, and the other settings should override this, but Auto Wide does not seem to work that way. If I select 4:3 The picture is horizontally compressed, regardless of the video input or AFD AFD on line 23 should be possible for any video input (including component), but I am suspecting that Samsung have not fully implemented the standard, if at all. |

I have gone back to SCART RGB connection, and the size adjustment does work after a fashion, but if the source is 4:3 AFD mode 3, where the TV should reduce the width and increase the height, it is only reducing the width, leaving black bands all the way round the picture.
Overall, very disappointing |
