I would contend that - if the general consensus is that the PS4 games look better, and run better (which is the implication by the COD issue) on a console that is significantly cheaper, and that consensus is reported over a wide range of media to all consumers, people will buy that console over the other.
That will directly make a real world difference in terms of success or failure - given that criteria is based upon how much a console sells - see the Wii U.
I think you're right in general to a point, but 720 vs 1080 is beyond that point. Most people don't know the difference or even care.
I am not sure something coming from CBOAT gives it more weight, that guy seems to just follow the principle of 'if you throw enough sh** some will stick'.
He seems to get as much wrong as he gets right, Mystic Meg had a better hitting average
I take back what i said earlier, NeoGaf is not even funny anymore,in fact, half of their posters seem border line crazy. The site has almost reached intellectual parity with the youtube comment section.

I think it's amazing how people go out of their way to legitimate spending 500$ on a weak "next gen" machine instead of buying the clearly superior one for 100bucks less. The argument "but it's the games" doesn't matter since you buy that new platform for only one reason, that is that it's more powerful than it's predecessor.
People buy PS4 and Xbone at launch because they want new HIGHTEC toys, not because they want to play rather weak launch games, which are already the xiteration and don't offer something new BESIDES better graphics. So, yes, in fact people spend their money for TECH, not for games
@He4rt The first quote is crazy as the Xbox 1 is clear more powerful than its predecessor.
But I do get were the second quote is coming from in a way. People who buy launch day do tend to be buying a new tech toy rather than buying a system for the games. If you are buying a next generation system purely for the games and not for the 'I was there first I want a new tech toy' you will probably be waiting until next year when more games arrive.

That place is messed up, it seems if you have a different opinion or dare to still want a X1 you get ridiculed. No plans on registering any time soon!
As for this CBOAT thing, he seems to have a very varied field of information on the X1. He seems to know everything about the X1 and its internal problems and also knows what a 3rd party game developer is aiming for 5 months prior to release. I call BS on some of the stuff, to know all this stuff you must be of quite high grade and well paid. Would you seriously risk that and leak stuff on the internet:rolleyes:
If you work for a company and are privvy to some damaging information would you release it in to the public domain?
I'm sorry but when did gaming become all about graphics, fidelity and useless facts and figures and not the decline in interesting new IP's or games in general?
Maybe I'm old school but it strikes me gaming now is more about bragging rights or superfluous facts and figures being banded around, or people, I assume, making up for some 'deficiency' in their personal lives by attacking others and the choices they make, instead of what actually matters...
Sure, but his hit rate is a little bit better than that, put aside the spittle foam-flecked reaction they provoke, as rumour-mongers go they're a Rolex to the average Timex

I think he was 'in the know' at one point, but his predictions of late have been either wrong or based on stuff we knew already (such as Dead Rising 3 coming to the X1).
@Hotbird, I do get what you are saying, but saying Weak launch games is rather subjective
edit: Someone has just said that Ryse will look like an xbox 360 game on a 1080p Tv on there....lol

Yeah i've only read his last few posts. Just way to varied for me for someone to have all that information.
Ever watched a film that is that bad you continue to watch it. I'm finding that with NeoGaf. I cant help but read some of the posts on that place.
You really do have to filter out the ab-so-lute garbage at 'Gaf. Usually it comes down to getting to know a very small percentage of posters that you know are either close to the pulse when it comes to information or have a unique point of view.
I don't read 95% of the threads there - but those I do usually end up extremely interesting.
Their policy of validating claims and handing out bans for FUD though IS effective - this is how you do get scoops of news such as the Xbox vs PS4 COD resolution stuff. You can be sure that even if it's a rumour, it's an incredibly qualified rumour and not pulled out of someone's arse.
@Hotbird, I do get what you are saying, but saying Weak launch games is rather subjective
Yeah, especially when this time around the launch line ups are actually great, even the now diminished PS4 line up is still one of the best launches game wise. I would still say release day purchases of new consoles is largely about having a new tech toy first though.
Is it me or is this 720 vs 1080 the new graphics don't matter for this generation
My opinion of course 1080p matters, will i break a game and make it terrible if it doesn't have1080p of course not but to lay it out simply
A version of an amazing game with 1080p will be better than a version of an amazing game in 720p its a fact, why on earth regardless of console people would try and act like it doesn't matter is beyond me
All of those links are citing Neogaf though, so just because other sites are carrying the story doesn't mean it's a fact (yet). If Activision/Infinity Ward confirm it then fair enough, but at the moment it's all speculation based one Neogaf rumour.

As someone who grew up with games sometimes having very different versions on different systems a lower resolution or some pixels out of place seems like a minor issue to me.
As I have said before, having a version with a lower resolution this generation has not taken away any enjoyment from the game.
Of course I would rather the version with the best resolution and graphics but as long as the game hasn't been fundamentally changed these are minor problems.
Was GTA4 or RDR any less of a game on PS3, was it any less enjoyable than the 360 version?

This is the flaw with modern internet journalism - one person/organisation runs a story and before you know it dozens of others have hit "cut and paste" in order to fill up their own blank pages. Just ask Sally Bercow if you want to know how good an idea that is!!!
I think I'll wait and see whether anyone actually verifies this story - rather than just go with the "no smoke without fire" theory of proof.

Reading in to it you do get some good debates and some of those gifs are to quality. As you say it’s the 95% of the posts in them threads need to be blanked out. I seriously read one person on a CBOAT post ‘my d1ck is hard’
Seriously are some people that obsessed with the PS4 out doing the X1. I’m no fan boy as I’ve had all the MS and Sony consoles and will get the PS4 at some point. But even if I was, I would not lower myself to even post anything like that on a forum.
In fact Dan i'm going back and making sure it wasn't you;)

I get what you are saying, but if Joe Bloggs pays £50 for CoD Ghosts on X1 and Jane Bloggs pays £50 for CoD Ghosts on PS4, its undeniable that Joe bloggs is paying the same for less
How can he be happy with that and sit there and pretend its all roses, its not, i'd be saying the exact same thing if PS4 was behind on resolution its not acceptable that both console aren't ready to run every game at 1080 from the start
And what does it say for the future of both consoles, if third parties (ok its just one game, though i believe battlefield runs better as well) can already achieve a better resolution on PS4 before launch, what will they be able to achieve on PS4 over X1 in a year or two
A version of an amazing game with 1080p will be better than a version of an amazing game in 720p its a fact, why on earth regardless of console people would try and act like it doesn't matter is beyond me
Because in real world terms the difference is minimal and the effect on the enjoyment of the game is nil. And what you say isn't quite the simple fact you make it out to be, there are other considerations to make between versions. For most people 720p vs 1080p will be hugely overshadowed by "which version will have the better online experience for me?"
All of those links are citing Neogaf though, so just because other sites are carrying the story doesn't mean it's a fact (yet). If Activision/Infinity Ward confirm it then fair enough, but at the moment it's all speculation based one Neogaf rumour.
The fact all those sites are publishing that article, shows that they have some kind of trust in the source. The fact that they all write the point that not all rumours that are pulled out of people's arses stay in-discussion on 'Gaf for long should show if anything a legitimacy in the rumour.
We really wont know any fact until Digital Foundry or whoever get's an actual non-NDA analysis - because right now MS and Activision cant say anything, and Sony won't because they don't really need to...
