As details emerge of a dramatic week of episodes for Coronation Street later on this year which is being dubbed Stella Week, Digital Spy chats to the show's executive producer Phil Collinson about what's to come.

What gave you the idea for Stella week?

I think that Stella is by far and away one of the most compelling and dynamic characters on the Street at the moment. The fans love her, and after Michelle Collins asked for a few more big storylines I felt it only appropriate to accept her request. And Stella Week was born.

How will Stella Week pan out?

It's all going to be very dramatic. It will see the character take centre stage in several of the week's biggest storylines- and, come to think of it, all of the week's scenes. We've decided to strip it over five nights in the 9pm timeslot, so that ITV can make way for an exciting new series of Sing If You Can.

Can you reveal much about the storylines?

Don't worry, any element of surprise will be drained from the episode as everything is leaked on the ITV website over the next week or so.

What do you make of criticism that other characters are being unfairly treated in comparison to Stella?

These reports totally false. As a matter of fact, I will be appearing on This Morning, Lorraine, BBC Breakfast, Daybreak and Newsnight over the coming weeks in order to make sure that people know the truth behind these malicious rumours. It's ridiculous to say that this character is being given any form of special treatment. Sean and Tracy are overused just as much.

And finally, what other storylines are coming up in the long term?

Well there's going to be a lot of dramatic stunts. A gas leak causes at least half of the buildings on the Street to explode, leaving the residents fighting for their lives. Also there's plenty more to come for Stella, including an affair with Tracy and a storyline in which she becomes best friends with Sean. Both of these plots have never been covered in this manner on a soap, and encompass a wide range of characters who have been out of the limelight for some time.

It's a shame, that overusing the character they have ruined her for the moment. There is no need for her to be in half the scenes she is in.

ITV bosses are reportedly planning a special "Stella week" in the Autumn. The five episodes will each focus on Coronation Street favourite Stella Price (played by Michelle Collins).

According to an insider, Stella will appear in every scene in the episodes, and the character will become involved in every storyline, interacting with all the characters.

A source said: "We're really looking forward to these explosive episodes where we can really invest some time in the character."

Producer Phil Collinson has tipped the week to be "unmissable", adding "Stella is everybody's favourite landlady and it's only right for her to have her own special week. Stella Week will be more exciting than the tram crash."

A spokesman for Kym Marsh declined to comment.

It was believable until the last sentence

    **UPDATE**

    Kym Marsh slams Stella week

Corronation Street favourite Kym Marsh, who plays Factory Clipboard holder Michelle, has slammed the proposed "Stella Week".

"She's fuming", a source close to Marsh said, "When she renewed her contract for 3 years, she was promised explosive storylines and to be pushed to the forefront of the show. Now Stella's taken over the party leaving a bitter taste between the actresses.

"A lot of the actors are not happy about this"

This is not the first time Coronation Street has hit controversy. The hit ITV soap faced a fans backlash a few months ago, when Sean Tully was absent from episodes as he filmed "I'm a celebrity".

Considering my thread about the Stella-themed chatshow got moved to the Games Room within an hour, I'm surprised this one has lasted for so long.

I feel like reporting this thread just because I'm still bitter :p

In a startling new development, the plot for a week in August is revealed:

Sean (now a fully qualified chef) makes a chicken dish for the bistro, but uses uncooked chicken by mistake. By coincidence, nearly all the street residents eat there that night, and by further coincidence they all choose coq au vin ("I love that" : Mary; "I've had it many times" : Maria; "I can be persuaded to try it" : Jason).

Alas, they all come down with food poisoning, and nearly all die. The only survivors are sean, tracey and michelle. They vow to repopulate the street.

Producer Joshua Merriweather said : I'm sure all our viewers will be relieved that their favourite characters have been saved.

Apparently Stella's birthday will become a national event with a huge party planned in Manchester. The day has been declared as a National Holiday with all shops and businesses closed so we can celebrate the birth of the truely inspirational figure. In other news regarding Stella the day that she finds out about Karl and Slutita, the whole of the UK will be in a state of national mourning, thousands will decent to Manchester with flowers and tributes, As much as the UK will be gripped by The Jubilee & The Olympics these two above Stella events will easily become the two most talked about events in 2012.

    Corrie's Christmas episodes revealed?

According to insiders, Coronation Street's long serving landlady Stella Price is to be knighted in a live 2 hour long Christmas special for her services to the local community.

A source said: "Stella Price will be excited to invite The Queen round the back for the ceremony, which will take place in the reception room of the Rovers - a set that has yet to feature on screen.

"Stella's knighting will allow fans to look back at all of Stella's iconic scenes over the year."

Producer Phil Collinson said: "As Stella missed the 50th Anniversary Tram crash, it's only right for her to take centre stage in our Christmas special. The knighting will be announced at the climax of "Stella Week" this autumn."

This is not the first time royalty has appeared on the show. In 2000, Audrey Robert's met Prince Phillip in a pre-recorded segment of the 40th Anniversary special.

Maybe Stella could stand in for Prince Philip at the Jubilee Thanksgiving Service tomorrow.

She could have a chat with Madge on the way in the coach and sort out any problems she might have.

'once again, stella to the rescue'
and this can lead to swill xmas ep, when stella gets a knighted:D
