Loved the explanation of Strax in Victorian times -- "whose countenance was too horrible to photograph" (or something) --that was good. I wish Vastra would cover her face though, it would make more sense.
Best thing about it was the dark brooding Doctor, though. Blimey.
This indeed! My concerns about getting another twee Narnia-type episode = gone!
That Sontaran looks daft though, they should go back to how they were in 2008.

But thats a small niggle.
They were in a deserted, dark alley though, in the picture we saw she does wear a veil.
Strax was brilliant as always. The moon stuff was priceless. Looked sumptious. Matts outfit was a beautiful thing. Only slight criticism was I found Matts line delivery bordering on Scrooge-esque pastiche which was unusual for him. Will have to watch again. Hopefully in the episode itself we shall have a lot more gravity. Matt does pain so well and the loss of the Ponds would be illserved by an Ebernezer retread which we already had two specials back from Gambon. Oh listen to me whinging! I shall shut up. It was only a few lines! Must say I thought JLC was cute as a very adorable button in the intro. I hope her companion is more of that as I found her Miss Sassy Pants act a bit grating in AOTD.
Have to agree that last years was real nadir for Moffats Who. I can't see it even approaching that level of awfulness. Dare I say it even worse than VOTD? Probably. Just seemed like Moffat had no story to tell. At all. Here's to better things to come!
I think last year Moffat missed a real opportunity. He should've done an Eleven/River honeymoon episode put through a Christmas filter as the Christmas special instead of TDTWATW and used the guest stars from that episode in different roles and featured Amy/Rory at the end when Eleven/River would go to spend Christmas dinner with them.
This year's special does look sublime though. Looking forward to the trailer.

Nice to see some other familiar faces in it
But thats a small niggle.
That was about it.
Thanks, I promised to send the link to an American friend of mine as soon as it was put online
yeah, it's not the kind of thing you expect to see in a show which involves travelling in time and space is it?
Was it Mark?/...sounded more like Bill 'Bracewell' Patterson to me
Yes, I loved that line about the moon

You're right, it is Bill Patterson.
Ed Russell clearly has the gift of foresight.
Wibbly wobbly etc... Just from the way they were I'm not sure why they'd be from earlier in their times but the christmas ep. might explain
They were in a deserted, dark alley though, in the picture we saw she does wear a veil.
I think we're all relieved about that
I certainly am. Even I can't defend last year's special.
It was definitely the worst of the Christmas Special by a long chalk
I can though! I thought it was great and still is! (And no I haven't forget to take my medication! ) I still think it was a great Christmas episode.
Better than Voyage of the Damned, The Next Doctor and The End of Time by far.....:D
Does look like this year's could better it though....Vastra, Jenny and Strax How much more Christmassy can you get?
Maybe he, Madame Vastra and Jenny had worked together before the events of A Good Man Goes To War and the Christmas Special takes place at that time
I'm with you.
