It is nice to see Eastenders finally get a high figure. I would imagine Christmas night will do ok, although I'm sure someone will say that it didn't do too well considering the promotion etc.
good result for eastenders. cant check right now but think thats highest since spring.
Just had a quick look and I believe its the highest rating EE has got since 22nd May when that episode averaged 9.0m.
So 8.4m last night. Not exactly setting the ratings alight is it? Corrie has been getting those types of ratings and more for months now.
I also can't believe its that long since EE topped 8.4m considering where in the depths of Winter now. I wonder where it will be at tonight? Mad Friday, up against Text Santa which may take some viewers away.
Good for Corrie considering its out of its normal slot again and about 1m more than last Thursday. Emmerdale got a slight boost for the Cameron/Chas murder storyline.

7m tonight for the reasons you give.
Corrie is widely recognised as having an older more sedentary audience, hence its viewers watch more regularly. I'd say EE is more capable of pulling a bigger number for an big episode though

It needs to be consistent though - which its not at the moment. And 8.4m for its big episode is nothing to write home about. Sure, its a step in the right direction - but once Xmas is over, will all the viewers leave again?!

What exactly were you expecting then? I think I remember you expecting the Heather murder episode to suddently find an extra 2m viewers which was never going to happen.
The rating was very good given we the show's ratings this year and the share was excellent, a full 5% ahead of Corrie.
When was the last time EastEnders got over 8m? It looked like the episode had picked up a few casuals judging by the comments on Twitter. The real trick is keeping them.
A couple of eps in November.EastEnders will be hit tonight i feel but Mondays episode should grow pretty nicely...With the later slot and more people hone ect
Nice to see the BBC3 figure up aswell as the main. Exactly the same thing will happen Xmas eve and day
It's a charity Christmas event, and every little helps.
Text Santa ought rate 4.0m+, though I can see some EE viewers watching it, then going back to Text Santa - I do see the repeat of Outnumbered living up to its name though.
Millionaire 3million down from Xmas special of 2 years ago, confirming the ratings crisis Itv are currently in with viewers actively avoiding their channel apart from the soaps atm.
For the much promoted climax of Eastenders biggest storyline of last 6 months, 8.4million isn't that good at all on a cold murky December evening. It won't do very well on Xmas day when its not the climax of such a long-running storyline and its against downton abbey instead of the tonight show
If Channel 4 continue showing unbearable food/property lifestyle shows in the peak of primetime then they deserve the constantly mediocre ratings.
With the exception of a few shows they have totally lost the ability to pull in younger viewers which is something they were exceptional at in the noughties.

MORE people will be sitting down on xmas day watching tv. i wonder how many people had an xmas party or went late night shopping? Actually Tuesday sees a reveal,a wedding,a Exit,A death so it will do well.

I think Eastenders will get more than 8.4mill on christmas day but not much more, probably its worst christmas ratings ever and not the number one show which will probably be Call the midwife. Remember a couple of months ago you said Eastenders would get 9million by the end of the year, it hasnt happened yet has it.

A friend of mine thinks Channel 4's awful prime time figures are down to the fact that people are watching c4 on 4od more. What do others think? I still believe viewing figures give a fair representation of who is drawn to what.
I am not sure c4 can go on scraping 1m prime time most nights?
Since they cut The Pogues skit out of McIntyre Roadshow did they replace it with something we didn't see last Christmas or just have a shorter run time?

Who and Strictly will trounce it!
:yawn::sleep:
Likely to rate higher - Text Santa was hardly a hit last year, surprised ITV have revived it, it's a poor man's Children in Need.
Very good ratings for a repeat of last year's Christmas Comedy Roadshow, and beating new, celebrity WWTBAM? (3.84m), despite the Corrie lead in.
