Best Video Game Soundtracks?

Let's be honest here. There is some awesome music in various video games, that only sound aurally wonderful, but do a brilliant job in setting the scene, creating a certain atmosphere or manipulating the emotions of the player. Much like in film, the right music can enhance a cut-scene or a boss battle from something good, to something great. So what are you favourites? Here are mine:

Tales of Xillia 2 - Betting On The Last Guide:
Discovering this yesterday if basically why I started this thread. I've never played this game before, but just listening to it MAKES me want to play it. It's just so kickass. As I understand it, it's the theme for a very specific and very important boss, and it sets the player up really nicely. The orchestra at the start really demonstrates the importance of the fight about to take place, and the transition at 0:56 to a frantic, heavy guitar gives you a sense of urgency. Something that says, "Holy shit, I need to win this fight, or we are done for!"

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Cornered
There are different versions of this depending on which installment of the franchise you play, but nothing beats the original for me. A theme that plays whenever you come close to trapping the culprit, it's the ultimate motivator in sealing the deal once and for all. Something that really gets the heart going, and something that demands that the player finish the job. There is nothing more heartbreaking that hearing the prosecution object, and the music quickly halts. A superb piece of composition.

Resident Evil 3 - Credits theme
The song that plays at the end of Resident Evil 3 as the credits roll, this is the perfect song to close the game with. The entirety of the game in spent on the edge, in constant fear and suspense of Nemesis jumping out at any moment. This is the perfect antithesis for the rest of the game's soundtrack, a constant barrage of low, horrible tones that represent the horror of the situation your in. This however is the perfect way to calm you down. As if to say, "breathe easy. It's finally all over".

Final Fantasy VII - Those Chosen By The Planet AND One Winged Angel
BOTH of these themes are a massive part of what make Sephiroth one of the greatest villains in gaming history. Their both so different, but both so fitting. The first is a precursor of things to come. An unsettling piece that indicates the something BIG is about to happen. And of course something big does happen, as the citizens of Nibelheim found out. It perfectly represents the madness of Sephiroth. However, as far as the final encounter is concerned, we need something more epic. Something faster and more frenetic to tell you that Sephiroth means business. Both excellent, and I couldn't pick a favourite between them.

Vice City and Hotline Miami are both absurdly magnificent, both set the tone for the themes of their respective games.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City. There is nothing better than driving down the sea front road listening to 'I Ran' on the car radio.

Don't know about 'best', but some great older gaming tunes that stuck:

Mario Bros - the original game and all it's sequels and offshoots.
    Starwing/Starfox.
    Barbarian (Ultimate Warrior)

Currently playing Dues Ex Human Revolution, it's got decent ambient melodies going on.

I could say all GTA games as the radio stations are always pretty decent but that seems a cop out.

The Civilization 4 theme tune Baba Yetu and the theme tune to Elder Scrolls Oblivion were both great.

I also thought the music throughout Uncharted and The Last of Us really complimented the games well.

    All the uncharted games
    All assasins creed games
    Enslaved Oddesey to the west
    Journey
    The Sabetour

(Re the latter I loved the 1940's feel of the soundtrack really bought the game to life)

GTA Vice City. The music was immense plus all the adverts and chatter on the radio stations lampooning the eighties was brilliant.

For an original soundtrack I'd go for either The Last of Us or Red Dead Redemption.

Another vote for Baba Yetu, and GTA just goes without saying doesn't it.

Maybe not so much a soundtrack as such but Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill score still scares the shit out of me so it's worth a mention!

    Silent Hill, oh god yeah.
I also have a soft spot for the save room in Resi Evil. The sense of safety that it conveyed.

I can't believe nobody's yet mentioned Super Mario Galaxy.

Or any of the Metal Gear Solids.
