Is Granada Reports in HD?

Not billed as "HD" in the Sky EPG but the studio looks as if it's in HD, and even with some of the items it's hard to tell if they are very well upscaled SD or actually just in HD.

They must feel a need to not bill this as HD for some reasons even if a lot of the programme seems to be, why couldn't they just take out HD cameras for reports if the programme and infrastructure is all in HD, this would give them an edge over North West Tonight who haven't been able to go HD yet.

The studio coverage is in HD and i've seen a few reports that are too but they are mostly SD. I'd guess that's why it isn't highlighted as an HD programme in the Sky EPG, much like the national ITV News isn't.

In HD on Freeview, studio is HD, some inserts are SD.

Studio is HD, has been since they moved to Salford. Studio for BBC Northwest Tonight is HD, but no current way of viewing it in HD.

I always thought it was accused of being "Manchester Reports" more, so why do people now feel there is an over Liverpool bias instead?

How come Meridian News isn't in HD then? They've been producing in HD for a few years now.

Which is a complete joke. No wonder people object to paying the licence fee.

Yep. Freeview HD from Belmont transmits Granada News instead of the Yorkshire feed.

What the heck has this got to do with the licence fee? You do know it's the same studio you can watch Breakfast in full HD every morning don't you? Before you go on bleating about it being a waste of money ... jeez!

What would be a waste of money, would be the BBC splashing out on every region having an HD channel, which would only benefit local news. ;-)

There aren't currently any HD circuits out of Whiteley.

No, implementing a single solution for the entire network rather than having 45 regional centres with 45 different sets of incompatible infrastructure.

It'll be online soon. More details here: https://www.btplc.com/News/Articles/Showarticle.cfm?ArticleID=46FA49CC-0C6A-44F2-BF1A-9D9AD67489D7

Oh I know ITV have a commitment to HD. It's just a shame the BBC, the great spender of public money doesn't.

The BBC Has all its main 6 Channels (4 streams) plus News available in HD , Started HD production in 2002..... (well actually 1998 but it was analogue ) covered Wimbledon in HD from 1990 (except1993) and will be rolling out the Regional news in HD in the next few years!

Perhaps it may help to point out what they have to do .. this is what I posted a long time ago on POV board
At the moment (in SD) the BBC feeds BBC one to the English region where the studio can be switched in (the regional Opt) - this at the moment runs at 270Mbit/sec whilst HD is 1.5 Gbit/secs (or even more equipment used to "fit" is in the 270Mbit/s "pipe")
and then back to the places where it is MPEG coded.....

Here new coders are needed , and then for DTT routing to the right transmitter -in your case Winter Hill....
Whilst for DSAT it needs the BBC Buying more Satelite space and up linking .....
and then there is what happened with the EPG!
and adding the resilience to the systems that you expect from the BBC (and I cannot talk about!)

Remember that there are 18 BBC regions - and most of these also need new studios......and news gathering equipment
so the "price for one" which may be just affordable - needs to be multiplied by about 20 times.....
and the BBC Would need about another 3 or 4 Satellite transponders alongside its 6 or 7 it has now .....

The BBC Executive is putting its plans to the BBC Trust so we may know the rollout plans soon and what this covers
.... But it is a lot of cost and the BBC Gets no more income from Going HD ....

Remember it was over 5 years after DTT was launched that the last BBC region upgraded to digital(SDI) and 16*9 - Plymouth - which is currently being upgraded to HD....
It all take time and money!!!!
and dual emission make it all the more so - but there are some infra structure changes happening!

(BTW the BBC Has had dual path 10G/STM64 connectivity to 28 sites for about 10 years - thus ITV is more that a few years behind (And ITN is still on an SD core)
    - and in addition 28 HD circuits BH -Media City - and all its legacy (ie. Over 5 year old) Video over IP codecs are HD capable)

and who led DVB T2 development!!!!

Plus ITV only offer ITV HD for free, you have to pay at least £32 a month to Sky just to get ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD & ITV4 HD, same with Channel 5 HD! and E4 HD, More4 HD & Film4 HD. The BBC has nearly all its channels in HD now and also recently launched BBC ONE Wales HD, BBC ONE Scotland HD & BBC ONE NI HD, leaving the english regions and the extra BBC TWO nations without HD for now.
