Seeing as there have been plenty of pop music threads. I decided to make a Rock,Punk and Metal thread.
So,who do you think are the best Rock,Punk and Metal bands of the 21st century?:p

Well the OP did say the 21st century
I'd say Opeth, even though they started in the 90's.
Green Day are true punk legends.
Inspired many pop-punk bands who formed in the late 90s & the 2000s & are now unafraid to be more musical in their songs whilst still keeping the 3-chord punk classics.
Also the best live band. Great showmanship, amazing crowd control & audience participation!

Totally agree! Saw them for the first time last month and was blown away. Already got my tickets for Manchester & Wembley next year, and can't wait!

I saw them live this month and I was quite disappointed. They were good, there's no doubt about that, but I was so bored at the constant "aaaay yoooo" he kept doing in almost every song. Only a few songs seem to have been played without some kind of interruption.

I loved all the "aaaaying" and "yooing"!
I liked that each song has something extra. They could just get up and perform the songs the way they were written, and they would still be great live. But the crowd singing/getting people out of the crowd/the water/t-shirt/toilet roll guns etc (for a full 2 hours 40 mintutes) made it a fun night as well as a top one musically.
I'm sure i'll be set upon for this, but; Green Day are not even really punk, let alone punk legends.
They produce glorified pop music with bastardised punk aesthetic and faux politics. "American Idiot" being the epitome of it. It's a contrived, manipulative, shameless money spinner produced to capitalise on the massive anti-American sentiment at the time.
They're "pop-punk" at best, with heavy emphasis on the pop.

Ezenden, I won't argue with you on GreenDay not being Punk although I don't mind them at all.
However, Punk is:
New York Dolls,
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers
Husker Du
The Ramones
The Dead Boys
Jayne/Wayne County
The Stooges
Also love:
The Wildhearts
The Dogs D'amour
Hanoi Rocks
All the latter bands have recored this century so count.
Also, saw Bug Girl and the Eureka Machines recently - what amazing bands!!!

100% agreement there dude, green day are about as much 'punk' as busted are 'rock'...
the ONLY green day track ive heard that has anything like punk attitude was the track i mentioned 'american idiot', however ive not heard everything they have done.
it may (in your words) have been contrived, manipulative shameless money spinner, but so what? you could say that about 'god save the queen', but no one would argue that it wasnt a uk punk classic, would you?.
