Digital Still Cameras

Hi,
I’m wanting some info on Digital Cameras, something along the lines of the Sony DSC-F717. I’ve done a little bit of research on the Sony but is there anything better at the same price or lower.
One problem that does bother me is the time delay between pressing the Shutter release button and the taking of the actual photo. A lot of Digital Cameras have a delay of what seems like 2 or 3 secs. Does the F717 suffer from this problem???
Any info would be most welcomed.
