xbox 360 and xbox one

hi

I know very little about xbox

my son wants a new xbox for Christmas. I was thinking of buying him an xbox one. he said he wants to play games with his friends (online ) and play games which his friends have shared with him ( games he doesn't have ).

his friends might still have the xbox 360 though. will my son be able to play 360 games on a one, or play shared 360 games with his friends.?

    The Xbox One will not play Xbox 360 games.

    Some games will be available for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360, but there is no guarantee that he will be able to play against friends using a different version of Xbox.

    If he has an Xbox 360 he will be able to share games with other Xbox 360 owners. Same goes for the Xbox One after a recent policy change.

    I would get him the xbox 1 as his friends will be likely to upgrade to it as well for christmas

    If you want to spend that much money on an Xbox One then get that. You can always pick up an old style 360 for around £40 now.
