Not a stupid edit, but didn't know where else to post this...

Speaking over the ending of 'Mother Simpson'!! Why?! Should be made illegal.

One instance that really sticks out for me was in Trash Of The Titans where they cut out the dialogue where the family suggested that Homer had resolved a budget crisis by dealing drugs but kept in the dialogue when Marge
saw for herself what Homer was doing and remarked "Its so awful, I almost wish it were drugs".

I seem to recall several instances where they cut out references to pornography. In the Trash Of The Titans episode where the garbageman take away a box of 'used up porno' from an embarrassed Krusty, some dialogue in the Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming episode where the colonel at the air base mentioned only being able to find Porno and revealing the front covers of the magazines, which Krusty subsequently picked up", and a line in the Simpson Tide episode where Abe Simpson stated that "My son Homer is not a porn star". I also seem to recall a line being cut in Who Shot Mr Burns where Abe claims to have lost his friend's collection of sunbathing magazines and Jasper responded with "You B******"

I'm almost certain that the Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming and Who Shot Mr Burns examples were not edited on BBC2. At least not on the original transmissions. They definatley kept in the line in Mr Plow about Homer buying pornography. I remember at the time being too young to know what the word meant and promptly asking my parents what it meant."

I also remember watching the "Lisa The Simpson" episode a few months after 9/11 on either the BBC or Sky(I can't remember exactly which) and there was a scene where Homer and Bart watched a programme called "When Buildings Fall Down" and Bart subsequently remarked "The best bit was when the buildings fell down". I subsequently saw this episode with this scene and dialogue cut although I can't remember if it was the same or a different channel. Does anyone remember which one out of BBC or Sky cut it and which one left it intact?

Just sent in a complaint to C4. The bit they left in the 138th Episode Spectacular was the full line of "Hello Smithers, you're-quite-good-at-turning-me-on", originally seen in Malibu Stacy.

    "Dear C4,

You know, I was about to compliment you on a broadcast from a couple of weeks ago when, despite you slicing something out of particular Simpsons episode, it was left in a compilation episode. What was the bit that was left in? I'm not telling you, because you'll only go and cut it out like the vultures you are.

Also, you managed NOT to let your continuity drones waffle over the end credits of BOTH the 138th Episode Spectacular AND Marge Be Not Proud, instead putting a little caption onscreen for a few seconds.

This shows you do NOT need someone shouting over the end credits or scrunching the screen EVER.

However, today, you sliced another chunk out of the Simpsons - from the end of the Itchy & Scratchy "Manhattan Madness" in The Day The Violence Died. Pathetic!

Please furnish me with an email address where I can contact someone higher up than yourselves to complain about these edits because I'm getting nowhere complaining to you.

    Regards,

    Dom Robinson"

So agreed with that! That's why I was surprised when two episodes left them alone as per my above comments.

Agreed with all your comments about the porn, Gordon, but in the wake of 9/11 I only remember no channel over here showing The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson since then, whereas it *has* aired in the US.

Sky had recently shown that I believe in the last year or so. I admit when I see that episode now just feels "odd" but I still like the humour in it .... homer going to use the toilet in both twin towers (one was locked and run to another) and gets another parking fine :D, I barely watch The Simpsons on Channel 4 compared to Sky where I see some of the new ones

From reading some comments I presume Channel 4 hack The Simpsons now as much as they do The Big Bang Theory (one run can be untouched the next its hacked to death and at times makes little sense!)

I've noticed on a few threads that you have claimed to have sent abusive letters to various companies. Do you honestly send such correspondence and expect a response? Has any company ever responded with anything more thoughtful than a standard template?

Honestly, how can you hope to escalate any complaint when your aggressive opening gambit is just asking to be filed in the bin by the low-level recipient?

Aren't all the reruns of Simpsons just the syndicated versions? These versions are two minutes shorter to allow for an extra ad break in the US and have been edited down to a U rating. Very much doubt it's C4 making any edits themselves in most cases.

All daytime daily/stripped reruns of any US comedy or drama are very likely to be the syndicated versions.

They used to cut friends a lot too. The worst one for edits is the one where Rachel is delivered a wrong cake in the shape of a penis. The word penis is hidden with the audience laughing and any lines that feature that word are badly cut so they don't make sense.

There's also the scene over the end credits where they're having a race with the wind up toy's from Emma's first birthday. The last line at the ends is from Phoebe: "Run Alan, Run you hairy Bastard!" The word Bastard is again hidden with the audience laughing.

40 seconds into this video of Manhattan Madness:

C4 cut away just as Itchy swung the axe. If they're going to butcher I&S, they'll never get shown!

    BURN HIM!!! :D

What sticks in my craw about C4's Viewer Enquiries, as well, is me pointing out to them how C4 reversed a cut to Homer Loves Flanders*, and then tried to ignore me pointing that out to them as a double standard when they tried to justify other cuts like "Hello-Smithers-You're-quite-good-at-turning-me-on"....

...which, of course, they'll have shown themselves up again with by leaving it in a compilation episode.

I don't blame you, popeye, I know what bad management are like, but they really are as clueless as the day is long.

(*here's my take on it with a guest star - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WH7OR4tcF9A)

I can kind of understand that The Simpsons might appeal to family audiences, with the necessary edits.

But, they are showing "2 Broke Girls" in the afternoons now - a show that is all about riskey comments - most of which are edited out.

Cartridge Family on Channel 4 now.

Cut out the prostitute who asks Bart: "Lookin' for a good time, sailor?", when it was perfectly fine on BBC Two. >:(

In that same episode they always cut out the ending where Marge goes to put the gun in the bin, but catches sight of her reflection holding the gun, thinks she looks good holding it and puts it in her purse instead.

Now they just have the sound of the bin closing, as if she'd binned it. So the ending of the episode is changed completely. >:(

Strangely enough they don't feel the need to edit out the motel janitor trying to fish a dead body (presumably a suicide) out of the motel pool. Apparently that's just fine.

And the other day I saw the episode That 90's Show where Homer forms a Nirvana-esque grunge band and Marge mistakenly believes he's become addicted to drugs because she walks in on him surrounded by needles and with one stuck in his arm.

Of course, it's explained in the very next scene that he was actually injecting insulin, because he'd become diabetic, but Channel 4 still edited out the shots of Homer with a needle in his arm and Marge flushing the needles down the toilet.

I have no idea how they could deem it inappropriate and worthy of editing when it is EXPLICITLY explained in the next scene that he was not using drugs.

    It's really so pathetic!

No point blaming Channel 4, you need to blame OFCOM and their ludicrous censorship rules which Channel 4 is complying with.

Because there is such a thing called `Kids` who watch it.

So even the word 'sexual'*or 'sex'- which are not even profanities, cannot be said in the presence of children?

    Blimey!
