Lack of Distribution Is “Killing” Surface:

Now I could believe that they've changed their tune on not selling to retail channels and have decided that actually putting it in shops is the only way anyone will buy it - but that doesn't translate to dumping them at a low price.
I mean let's be serious here. Aside from the ridiculously small outlet for Surface, is also only been on sale for six weeks. Its far too early for them to pull the rug out from under themselves.
Remember, these same rumour-mongers were claiming Surface would sell for only $200 a few months ago. They don't have the best track record.
The ad has been on a lot.
Price is too high for my liking.
Windows Phone has failed to make any traction against Android and iOS in the mobile market, and I'm not surprised the tablet market is following that same trend.
Even Blackberry is doing alright, although inferior against iOS and Android, it's becoming popular with children/young adults.
The question is whether or not that would be in conjunction with discontinuing production. All we know so far is that production will be halved. It seems likely that Microsoft will see how Christmas sales go before making a decision.
..... oh and its way too expensive to really compete sadly ....
Kinda makes sense, they gave OEMs the opportunity to come out with good hardware and make some sales.
If OEMs let everyone down, Microsoft has to step in. It's no less than what Google has done with the Nexus series.
Having a browse on hot deals and it looks like john lewis will be selling the surface rt instore and online.
Instantly reducing the market demographic to "people who do want a laptop / tablet combo".
Android has a massive store and it does everything i want /need so why spent more on the expensive surface same with ipad
Some broad-brush assumptions there, let's try and set out this "jack of all trades" notion a bit more rigorously. We are going to compare like with like here (i.e. pure Windows 8 tablets and laptops) to isolate the issue from a Windows vs iOS issue.
Tablets
What makes it worse than a pure tablet? Maybe weight and 16:9 aspect ratio? The question for each person is does the addition of laptop features and benefits outweigh the costs over a pure tablet or not?
Laptops
What is the loss compared to a similarly priced tablet? Difficulty using it on your lap? Keyboard is not as great? Fixed angle for screen? Versus the addition of tablet features such as increased portability: use in more use cases - the tablet use cases, an acceptable keyboard mitigates.
Hybrid
Ideal as a hybrid?
The point of me doing this is to show that yes it may not be as tablet-y as a pure tablet or laptop-y as a pure laptop. But the benefits of having a bit of both may outweigh any cons without needing a person to actively want a hybrid.
The lack of apps and the design of Metro might be fixed in the future if WinRT survives, but it's unlikely that the other factors will improve much if at all.
