My Dad has tried to get out of Talktalk and everytime he does they say that there will be a penalty charge for leaving them, they are in effect holding you hostage to their service.
You have to agree to a new contract.

They will like other ISP's charge you for leaving a contract early.

Hi Lee,

When contracts are upgraded there is a compliance script read to the customer. This is done via the telephone in most cases and the account holder is informed of the new contract term. If the account holder wishes to dispute the contract term we can investigate into this for them. They are welcome to tweet us @TalKTalkCare or join the TalkTalk Members Forum where we can investigate.

Regards

Mark

I have been with TakTalk for years, agreed their Customer Service is not great, but there are ways round that, but everything else I like, especiall the prices. I have just signed for another year value line rental at £114, making £9.50 a month, compare that with some of the others. I get just over 5Mb speed, all calls 24/7, TV , I negotiated a £5 monthly discount, and it comes in at approx £30 all in. I think that is great value.

If you want to benefit from the faster speeds on the TalkTalk equipment then you could go with a reseller instead.

These tend to offer monthly contracts with the benefit of the option of not having to move your phone line to them. Makes it easier to move your broadband later on as you can still use the MAC code process.

Downside is they will be more expensive than TalkTalk and may have a usage allowance as opposed to being unlimited.

E.g. Xilo.net, Vivaciti.net

That was one of the biggest reasons why I joined plusnet. Luckly I had my own modem/router already so that meant it saved me some money, and I didn't have to sign up to a 12 month contract (which living in rented at the time, and not knowing how long we where going to be there was a huge plus).

Yes, I had a similar problem. Called TalkTalk to get my father's account transferred to my mother on his death. They gave me a link to a form which required the current account holder's signature... Unbelieveable !

So, for the same reason, I won't touch em
