And for such a space age box lol, where is all the HD for this amazing tivo box,( i forgot SKY have all that!) Be honest with yourself, the tivo is not that good.
Think you will find you are in a minority.strange that you think it's not good but continue to read and post in a TiVo discussion??

Well, VM took away the ability to delete channels. That broke the Hiccups pages and several other features. We can't stop it recording Wishlists and Suggestions from the wrong channels now.

The EPG changed. The USA TiVo still has the option to get the old EPG back, but VM wouldn't let us have that either.

However, by "attention to detail", I don't really mean big features broken. I mean little touches that made the original TiVo a joy to use. For example, the top menu item was My Shows, which is also the one we use the most. Now that's buried several items down the list. The fast forward speed was halved, but the skip-back time was left the same, so they are out of wack. Now I have to hit a key to pause the Video window every time I go into the main EPG. I didn't have to do that with Series 1.

It's little details that are easily overlooked, and so are hard to nail down in a post like this, but they matter. They affect the user experience. Series 1 invoked passionate loyalty in its users. The VM model doesn't. The poor implementation of Reminders and default padding shows that the team don't have the same deft judgement any more.

because of commercial agreements with UK channel providers.

You could just press Home > Home or the My Shows button.

Yes, I know the reason. That doesn't change the fact that it happened.

I had forgotten about that

And that. But then I can see why they did that as it's bad enough trying to talk some people through one EPG, never mind two

Well okay. But I'm used to the new one now.

The old short-cuts still work, you know

The poor implementation of Reminders ...
Is not Tivo's fault. It's the only way they could implement it. No other Tivo has that functionality as it wasn't programmed with it in mind.

We now have default padding

I take your general point though.

I for one cannot wait to get rid of my TiVo. I've been a virgin customer in the past when V+ first launched. V+ just didn't do it for me, very clunky and slow to use. I switched back to SkyHD and stayed a customer for 7years. To try and save a bit of money I went on the mates rates deal and part of that package is a TiVo. What a bad choice. The box is just as bad as the first V+ box. Menus which are awful to navigate and so slow, I lose the will to live every time I press a menu button or exit from a menu back to tv.

I've never used a Sky+ HD box so I can't compare, but I agree that menu operation on TIVO is extremely sluggish. Especially on 'My Shows' that is just painful sometimes.

Maybe there are just dodgy boxes out there though, mine does crash every now and again.

I've got both at the moment until the Tivo goes back in a few weeks and the SkyHD box is much faster and simpler to navigate. The menus are much easier on the eye (any graphic designer will tell you dark red is a poor choice for background colour) and better laid out.

I think it is just luck of the draw. Some Sky and VM boxes need replacing - it happens to VM customers just as it happens to those on the dark side.
