  Far easier I would have thought to access one of the Virgin Media servers on speedtest.net.

  How long have the VM servers been on there? Just did a test to my local one, best latency I have ever had on a speed test, 6ms.
  
  Not sure why you have to go to the west midlands to select the Leicester server
