Except that on the 'Fargo'DVD extras,William H Macy says,he asked one of the Coen brothers, where he could read more about the case,as it was a 'true story'.
Joel or Ethan (can't remember which!) grinned and said, nowhere,as it wasn't a true story. Macy said 'But the film starts with the caption 'this is a true story' and was told 'Yeah, thats part of the story too!'

One film which I watched recently courtesy of Lovefilm was Sophie Scholl: The Final Days.
It was one of the saddest films I have ever watched, three young people caught by the Gestapo giving out leaflets in Munich University condemning National Socialism. This event actually occurred in Munich in 1943. All three were interrogated for two days, on the third day, they were tried in a kangaroo court, automatically found guilty and were executed by guillotine on the same day.

Its pretty unreal but the way the movie unfolds is pretty much what happened in real life. Everything was recorded in McDonalds.
