..... Shouldn't this be in the sports section? We have a ferry sinking, a mini war in Ukraine, a little lad on fire and Heaven knows what else, but no - the most important thing is a football manager has been sacked.
Very true, Masterchef was illogically moved to TV Reality but half the posts in Broadcasting seem to be about sport.

I think they were referring to the sports section of the news rather than the forum. The sports threads in Broadcasting are about broadcasting. Masterchef is reality TV.
Excellent post. Agree 100%. People should stop moaning and if they want other news, use the various websites or foreign news channels which will focus on other events. It is 2014 after all. Long gone are the days when there were only limited sources of news.
Exactly. Unfortunately in my house Sky or BBC News is nearly always on in the background when my mum is around She used to watch channels like CNN and EuroNews but she hardly watches them any more. I do tend to use the internet more for news though.
Aren't we getting a bit of the old DS syndrome here - Just because I'm not interested in the story it shouldn't be reported.
It was a major story with far-reaching implications (United are now being investigated by the New York Stock Exchange for telling journalists before they told investors that they were sacking their manager). Not often a story about a football manager occupies a large part of the front page of the FT.
Yes but they already devote approximately half their bulletins to sport anyway, should have been in the lead in that, not in that and also the main news bulletin!

If something's socially pervasive and you see other people, then hearing about something ubiquitous like football and Eastenders might be as common as seeing a car go past. If I hated cars I wouldn't be able to avoid them as they are everywhere, if I go out I have to cross a road and negotiate cars, this is a good analogy, in some aspects of my life I have to negotiate football and cross it safely! Lest be run over by a tidal wave of boredom as you hear about overpaid loons getting paid this lottery win amount so and so to go and play for x city that you can buy an AZ street atlas for. Could most football fans care less about geography, but they get given a comprehensive refresher on the names of the nations big towns and cities all Saturday afternoon and most weekday evenings courtesy of Sky Sports News! It now includes European geography lessons thanks to the Champions League! And a lot of people will be learning about country names this summer too!
So those arguments about "don't like it, don't watch it", "don't like the story, watch other news" are useless, because unless I was a total hermit and didn't bother totally with the mainstream TV and radio the pervasive stuff is there.
For some people, the routine is to watch the news and regional news every day (it isn't for me I must say, I watch the odd time and to be honest it is indeed them having bout half the content as sport that puts me off!) and so stories that seem out of proportion like this one must be annoying to them, so telling them to watch Russia Today or something instead is more than a bit passive aggressive, non sport fans should at least be entitled to have some proper news first and then hear about a sacked manager only when the 6.15 sport stuff comes on, at that point they should quickly nip over to Eggheads.
Luckily on my low Sky package, Sky Sports News is now an upgrade screen, but my friend just put on TalkSport instead! (lol)
Regional news certainly does, more or less, round about 6.15 usually on Granada Reports for sport, then you get a bit of well earned weather at the end. North West Tonight is much the same, I guess it could vary in other regions given this regions particular obsession with sport, sorry football & rugby!
I sometimes watch other bulletins on satellite, but they do also usually contain a lot of sport.
<<<< BBC TWO turns 50, has a weekend of celebration over Easter, news channel shows classic BBC TWO clips as part of the bulletin. It was once run by David Attenborough it gave life to the classic comedies "The Young Ones" and "The Office" At first it was the channel that dared to be different, our reporter has more 1964-2014 in clips.

They give coverage to "Game of Thrones" which would be fair enough if they were interested in covering all entertainment and media stories >>>>>

Not sure on the basis of Granada Reports and North West tonight you can say "Regional news certainly does."
Certainly down in the South West, Spotlight and Westcountry don't and only get close to half that much sport that on Mondays and Fridays.

True, they are paid a reasonable rate for doing their job and not grossly overpaid like football managers.

No they don't.
