For starters the fact that Aliens came out in the 80s has got absolutely NOTHING to do with it and the fact that Alien came out in 1979 hasn't got anything to do with it.
There were plenty of films that came out in the 70s with loads of action and loads in the 80s without that much action.
I keep hearing people say they were different "beasts". Well if that's the case why make a sequel in the first place. If you're going to make a sequel then obviously you don't want to make a straight remake which some directors have done but what's important is that you DO make it in a similar vain or style to the original. That's my problem with Aliens. It simply does away with the claustrophobic feel of the original which creates the suspense, and replaces it with meaningless action and stupid dialogue between the characters.
Personally I don't consider Aliens as an actual sequel, Apart from having Ripley and a little bit of background to the original Alien, it could be a stand alone movie on it's own without any need to reference the original Alien.
If anything the only film the feels slightly a sequel to Alien is Prometheus albeit a prequel, but even then it still doesn't have that Alien vibe to it.
I found out last year there was a sequel to save the last dance, it was on amazon as a package with the original for like a fiver I think,
It's terrible.
I should stay away from sequels with little to no stars of the original in them they mostly suck.
Also Sandra Bullock movies.
Miss Congeniality was my fave film for ages then the second one came out and it sucked.
Maybe cos I loved her getting with the guy in the original. I still don't get why they broke them up. He could have been working a case in another town if the actor didn't want to do it.
Speed 2 who even let that get made it was basically Speed on water.
The Beastmaster
The Sword and the Sorcerer
Jaws
Beverly Hills Cop
Gremlins
The Disney films which had straight to DVD sequels like Bambi 2, Jungle Book 2 etc
Pirates of the carribean 1
The three follow ups were ghastly.
Grease
Grease 2 was and will remain an absolute crime
Silence of the lambs
Hannibal, Red dragon and Hannibal rising were just awful. I try my best to forget they ever happemed
I know I'm not alone in saying that I LOVE Grease 2! I watch it more often than the original.
For me, the worst sequel ever made has to be Exorcist II: The Heretic. The director had been quoted saying he hated the original film, but was still offered (and accepted?!) the sequel. Needless to say, it completely misses everything that made the original film memorable. The other Exorcist sequels aren't much better either.

I'd say Grease 2 isn't a bad film so much as the guy from Emmerdale couldn't act and as he was the main character in it, it's hard to watch. The scenes without him are fine

Not a patch on the original though. You wouldn't even compare the two.

Try Manhunter (remade as Red dragon), far superior imho to Silence of the lambs.

I think I stand alone in actually liking Requiem.

Harry Callahan: You've got to ask yourself a question: 'do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?
