Problems with Internet Explorer

Sorry just have to say I really know nothing about computers.
The problem is on the laptop I use for my business I cannot get on to the internet. The only message I get is 'Internet explorer has stopped working'.
I also use Microsoft outlook for business emails, this isn't working either.
Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong and if there is anything I can do.

Otherwise i am unsure, but i recommend using firefox it is more secure and alot faster
