I love it it's my favourite music, I hate when people are ignorant towards it, if you dont like it then thats fine but don't judge the whole genre on a few terrible rappers you've seen glimpses of.

Love it when people say it wont be around in soo many years to come, it's been around since the 80's, it aint going nowhere now, I would say though that mainstream rap has gone way down hill in recent years, if you search for it though there are plenty of artists about today worth listening to

Apart from the fact it's utter shite and it's like having my eardrums violated, it seems to glorify violence and gang culture and I'm sick of my young child being exposed to those 'black booty' videos in the middle of the day which is practically like soft porn.

I also blame it for a rise in our kids not being able to talk properly. Wanting to talk like 'meez homies innit.' and all that irritating 'gang speak' which seems to be finding it's way into every day conversation.

And what's with all that pointing and jabbing business they keep doing with their fingers? Annoys the hell out of me.

Some of it is okay, there's should be a category between 'loving it' and 'rubbish'.

At least it is just your ears getting violated. :D you could always put a different tv channel on if it might help?

I'm guessing the UK hip hop scene is influenced by Jamaica with those sorts of words?

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of the genre. I was a kid in the eighties and it was all quite new then. Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash et al were doing some groundbreaking things. I liked some Public Enemy and when NWA broke into the mainstream that was different and exciting. Hova is pretty awesome. One of the most interesting times for me was when Rap and Metal started crossing over with the likes of Run DMC and Aerosmith and later all the artists on the Judgement Night movie soundtrack. I only really listen to hip hop occasionally though and it's usually when I'm in the gym.

Maybe so but they tend not to show them in the middle of the morning but music videos seem to be exempt from censorship for some reason. Not happy walking into the lounge and my son watching people bumping and grinding flashing off copiuos amounts of 'booty' whilst the rapper talks about popping a cap in someones ass and glorifying gang culture, drive by shootings and drug taking.

Hardly appropriate for a child to be watching.
